In-Game XMB nearly here?

PS3, that is all...

The feature that we have all been waiting for is nearly here, and about time to.

The Internet has exploded with rumours that firmware ver 2.40 is going to include the functionality of in-game XMB however that doesn’t mean it will work for all the games from the get go.

This firmware version hasn’t been sent to the developers yet and obviously games that are already out don’t have the functionality to plug into the XMB so they won’t work for cross game invites… However the universal messaging system will more than likely work straight away..

No date has been set for the release but June 12th makes sense to me….

Oh and apparently trophies are also included which is going to be an awesome addition… in-game XMB is still the bigger story though.

There are two video’s posted on the local PS3 forums that I can’t seem to embed for some arb reason, you can see them here PS3 Forums

apart from the titles that didn’t sell well, i’m sure that the devs of existing titles will scramble to get XMB support shortly after release. (We don’t have a real release date for the XMB update, let’s hope Sony gives the devs enough time.)

Remember, when Dual Shock 3 came out, there was a decent amount of games that has rumble support from day 1 because Sony gave them a decent heads-up. The can certainly do this again.

This is far from confirmed, but it has appeared in so many web sites that it looks like a deliberate leak from Sony. Still, people shouldn’t get too excited about what is still essentially a rumour.
