Cartoon indie zoe

I would love to say something witty or interesting about the end of the week or indie gaming or something, but my fingers are frozen and it’s making me lose my sense of humour. Stupid winter.

First up, there is awesome news on the local indie front. Blazin’ Aces has made it to the top 30 paid apps on both iOS and Android. Gavin played and reviewed it – they have subsequently lowered the price and patched the game. That’s right, get an improved game for the low low price of $1. Blazin’ Aces is available on iOS, Android and Windows, so if you have a mobile (other than a stupid BlackBerry) you can grab it today – let’s help this very cool local developer get to the top of the charts.

For those who still don’t know, Bastion developers Supergiant Games have released their new game, Transistor to critical acclaim. It’s quite something to play, particularly on the PS4. You can read my review, or just grab the game yourself and see what all the fuss is about.

Want to work for an awesome local development house? Free Lives, the bros behind Broforce, is hiring. They’re currently looking for a writer and community manager. Go live your dream and work in gaming. If, of course, that is your dream.

Prototype of the Week

Yojimbrawl

As long as we’re talking about Free Lives, their Ludum Dare (yes, I’m still using Ludum Dare entries as prototypes because they’re awesome) entry was really rather great. Yojimbrawl approaches the theme of “beneath the surface” in an unexacting and fighting filled way:

We tried to bring in a concept of death and help from beyond the grave (or from below the surface). After dying you return slightly buffed, until your graves are filled up. We wanted to give it a seedy *underground* fighting feel, but the game ended up too pleasant.

Speaking of worms. You can now get worms from the ground in DayZ and eat it too. Hell you can cook worms as well but either way makes you sick. I think it was meant for fishing.

Unfortunately I’m not a very good writer and I’m ever worse at community related activities.
