Zoe s indie 500

Oh look, a place for me to ramble about what I’ve been up to, or the fact that the week has gone too fast. Nah, I’ll just tell you all that there’s some cool indie news from this past week that you should read about.

First up, check out this awesome project on Kickstarter. Created by real astronauts and scientists, Space Pioneer is a space sim with real time strategy and city building mechanics. Honestly, this sounds incredible – it’s based on our actual universe, with resources taken from the Hubble telescope, NASA and other observatories. If you’re even vaguely interested in space games, this could be the best thing ever. Check out their video:

Next up, Gone Home developer Steve Gaynor talked about the sea change in indie development. According to Gaynor, rather than us seeing a slowdown in indie gaming, he believes that we will see the second generation of games from applauded developers.

Games like Braid, Thomas Was Alone, Bastion, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent made waves. But the developers of those games are all preparing to release their second major titles: The Witness, Volume, Transistor, and Soma, respectively.

Indies are much more in direct competition with each other. We’re going to see a lot of indies that are competing with each other for the attention of the players, for the attention of the press.

Indie competition is certainly increasing, especially as major platforms are taking notice. With so many indies doing well on the PS4, they’re sure to be vying for attention and hoping to be discovered even more than before. Curatorship will be particularly important.

Speaking of curatorship, Steam Greenlit another 50 games this week. So much for Greenlight going away – it seems to be gaining momentum. Or maybe they’re just trying to green light all the good ones before canceling the program.

    Yay! I’m logged back on.

There’s lots of pretty cool games floating around… but I’m too busy on Terraria to care atm.

If you guys wanna join in on Terraria, drop me a message on Steam if I’m in game and I’ll send you the IP and password for the “little” world my friend Lilbighorn and myself have been exploring and working on.

There’s ways around paying for Minecraft 😛

Terraria is like Minecraft, but at the same time isn’t REALLY like Minecraft, it’s actually better and harder, and a 2D side scroller.

There’s more to craft without mods, NPC’s have uses, and the weapons are really cool.

Oh & speaking of Kickstarter, that Abraham game failed hard. Only made pledges of $19k towards the $100k target. Think someone was messing with their pledge counter too, because if you actually add up the pledges they only come to +-$8.5k. You get the odd troll who pledges big then cancels at the last minute.
