Indie Zoe: Raider of the Lost News (6 November 2014)

Cartoon indie zoe

It’s the season of AAA games! All the biggest releases of the year come out in this period, and indies can easily get lost in the shuffle. That said, some of the indie announcements are getting me more excited than I thought – especially when they include Don’t Starve, Cook Serve Delicious and FTL.

Don’t Starve Together will be bringing co-op and multiplayer elements to Don’t Starve. It’s something I’ve wanted from the beginning and I’m far too happy to see that it’s coming together nicely. The latest video looks fun and it makes me giggle to see players trolling each other.

Cook, Serve, Delicious! is getting a free update on Sunday on Steam. It includes all kinds of craziness, including multiplayer and even a guest character roster – a space slug from FTL: Faster Than Light. You can read all about Battle Kitchen over here; I’ve already gotten re-addicted, and I’ve now decided to get the game on iPad, too. I think it’s over for me.

In latest Mike Bithell news, Volume has a newly disclosed voice actor: Andy Serkis. Serkis is known for his work on The Lord of the Rings trilogy and is also lending his voice to The Avengers: Age of Ultron. He will play an evil CEO in Volume who basically runs a near-future version of London.

In bundles, the Humble Indie Bundle got even more games added to the package, but you don’t need to hear that. The Steam Halloween sale just finished, I’m sure you’re backlog is already restocked.

Prototype of the Week

I wasn’t sure which game to tell you about, until I saw this quote on a post about Mine Zombie Failure:

Oh my, somebody made a cookie clicker game? And you can lose? Mind blown!

Zombies combined with cookie clicker and the possibility of losing? You can download it over here.

One of my things to do is play Don’t Starve Together. It’s going to be so great.

That’s one game I just couldn’t get into – the original Don’t Starve. Dunno why… It just never grew on me, no matter how much I played.

The first two times I played it wasn’t so great to me either. Then I revisited it later, knowing what it’s about, and loved it. Built an immense base. But not starving together brings in a nice new perspective. I’m very excited.

I have played a bit, but haven’t survived longer then a month yet. Too much exploring and too much “Ooh what’s that!” followed by too much dying.

Yea, I also haven’t survived very long. I tend to go overboard early and then die sooner
So I need friends to tell me to calm the f^&! down.

Sounds too much like real life to me 😉
How many people can actually play together? We can get someone like Trevor to join and then leave him outside as an experiment, to see how long he lasts.

You say that like you think Trevor wouldn’t do that to you. So naive 😉

Trevor probably practices the buddy anti-shark system of diving.

Why else do you think divers carry knives with them?
There’s no way something that small is going to stop the shark before he has his snack.

I don’t think about them much. You’re making it sound like I’m supposed to.

But I wouldn’t do that to him… I’d convince him do it to himself.

Between stranding himself in the wilds alone and being in the same kitchen as you, which do you honestly think he’d pick?

I’m guessing the option he feels would be best for me.

VtMB is my favourite RPG. Don’t forget to get the community patch for it – adds & fixes so much.

I installed the basic patch and started playing.
I then learned that the Plus patch adds some cut content and so reran the patch losing my save, I’d just started so no real loss.
I’m really enjoying it so far.

Which clan did you choose? Bearing in mind that any answer other than Malkavian is wrong.

I’m saving Malkavian for my 2nd playthough and Nosferatu for my 3rd playthough.
Although I am really tempted to jump onto the 2nd playthrough already since I read that Malkavians will occasionally have street lamps talk to them.

They have the best dialogue. Nothing like looking at your five conversation options & wondering which one means “yes”.

I don’t think I’ll have much trouble with that.

If I was given the Embrace I’m pretty sure I would be a Malkavian.
I’m already almost as crazy as they are.

The Halloween sale was only good for my indie backlog. I finally got Mark of the Ninja: Special Edition, Don’t Starve + Reign of Giants and the Binding of Isaac bundle.
