Infamous Direct Feed Gameplay – I am so sad

Infamous is one of those games that is getting a decent cult following which keeps on letting everyone know how awesome this game is really going to be.

So when I saw a link to some direct feed gameplay I was expecting to be blown away, however I am utterly underwhelmed to be honest.

I managed to stay awake through the dodgy camera train ride only to see someone attempt to play the game while being totally incapable of aiming or dying… Yeah it’s cool that he can climb buildings and throw cars around but the core gameplay mechanic looks terrible and will instantly frustrate the average gamer.

The fact that you can take hundreds of shots and electrocute the same guy over and over before anything happens really doesn’t excite me and neither does the pointless shooting by the bad guys (when they don’t see you) who never seem to hit anything but the walls.

So yeah, at the moment I find it to be an interesting physics experiment and it’s cute that you can save people but I really do expect more if they want this to be a truly AAA game.

At the moment I expect this game to have rubbish controls, terrible camera control and an absolutely pointless story… sounds like I should be saying it’s GOTY material doesn’t it…

I think it looks fantastic for a game that’s still nearly a year away from completion. The game engine looks great, and the gameplay seems promising. I’m sure they’ll sort the AIs shooting at the walls out before the game comes out. It seems narrow-minded to be trashing games so long before they arrive

I had the same sinking feeling when I saw direct feed from damnation.

Idea is cool, tech seems decent, but when you see it, it just sinks… pity.

They have a year or so to fix it, lets hope it is the PS3 version of Crackdown.

what’s promising about it? The fact that it looks okay?

It’s also not narrow minded to give an early opinion on a game. It’s narrow minded to refuse to change that opinion.

Infamous may turn out well but for now I am not impressed

What’s promising about it? The free-form platforming elements, the super powers, the game engine, the graphics, the concept, the fact that it’s from an awesome developer.

I’m not going to shoot it down because there are some AI glitches a year before it is due to launch. Apart from that, I honestly can’t see what you’re complaining about – certainly, I can’t see how the controls or combat look any worse than, say, Crackdown?

Oh absolutely we can’t slam it for the AI, that is normally only fixes at the end..

However my biggest complaint is the core gameplay that just doesn’t look very good.

But I have just realised that I have said something bad about a PS3 exclusive… so anything I say from now on is pointless anyway…

But yeah it doesn’t look any better than crackdown but it does look worse in many ways. Nothing you mentioned is innovative or fantastic in my mind. Super powers that can’t kill people, free roaming is not new and the fact that it comes from a good developer doesn’t mean it’s going to be good

This game looks (for lack of a better word) BROKEN. yes i know its still a while away from finished. But another assassins creed/crackdown with super powers. no thanx. Assassins creed was proof that a game can do something extremely well and look really good doing yet still suck. This doesnt even have those two points down

And if it sucks they can give a “free” beta tester key for killzone 2. 🙂

I don’t get why people release gameplay vids when the game is clearly not ready to be shown yet. IMO it looks very fun and the GFX looks great but the slow-downs and clipping looks terrible.

The Super Powers do kill people as far as a I can see – whoever was playing it was shocking people after they were dead for some reason and was missing a lot.

Shrug. I’m not going to say it will definitely be good, but I’ll give it a better chance than most because SuckerPunch knows what its doing. PS3 exclusive or not, is not relevant. I think your comments about Braid were just as misguided, 🙂 but at least that game is out….

sly cooper series, nuff said ;D

I think the hype around the game is built upon the history of what that Dev team has made. Blizzard could announce a game with a bitmap-paint-drawn slide-show and people will still go apeshit about it. Why? because it’s blizzard.

Then you can also bring in the exclusivity factor, every exclusive gets hyped to shittown and back!

Come now lazy! The pity party is not needed 😀
Even though I do agree that the Sony defense force likes to keep close!

But to be fair, you do tend to shoot off at a bad PS3 story/ rumor and don’t bother to update once its proven false. But my mind hasn’t been made up if its the hits factor that keeps enticing it ;D

Sorry did I miss where this story has been proven false or where the video suddenly looks fantastic?

If this wasn’t a PS3 game some of these comments would just not exist. As can be seen by the lack of certain posters in bad Xbox stories. Personally I can tell you it gets very frustrating at times.

    Anyway tomorrows another day 😛

I dunno Lazy if you can compare these graphics to crackdown you really need to play it again. These graphics falls more into the GTA4 class.

    Just my opinion…
Owner of all the consoles so dont try and use the Fanboy thing, and I also prefer most games on my Xbox

My reverence wasn’t toward this video. What you say is true though, but wouldn’t it be the same if you attacked xbox exclusives?

Wont you then have the same responses from that side of the fanboi soup bowl? I would expect you to know this hyperbole by now.

I was absolutely not trying to compare the graphics to crackdown. I said the game doesn’t look any better (as an entire game).. not graphics..

yes I could have chosen my words better 😉

I would personally rate the graphics higher than GTA as I wasn’t overly impressed with GTA’s graphics.

Charl, suprisingly when I (or anyone else here) attacks a 360 exclusive the resulting comments are not as harsh…

There is a small yet vocal set of PS3 fans around here who refuse to accept criticism of their console. Normally this is great but on this story it truly did irritate me.

Don’t worry Lazy, some people just are WAY too sensitive.
It’s just your opinion based on this video and i do tend to agree with you. Or maybe it’s just the person they got to play the game. Eish! 😉
But ja, I’d like to see a little bit of hand-to-hand combat thrown in there to spice things up, because this blue lazer thing got old after the first (missed) shot.
Hopefully there’ll be some awesome weapons to choose from and the movement will be a bit more polished.
It does look like it could turn out to be fun. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Heh ok granted. Well then it looks like you have a SDF infestation on yer hands ;D

But like I said earlier, it does come with the territory. Blogs r serois bussiness!! Funny that the xbox360 fanboy presence is so low here, but it usually comes in waves. Pretty soon the ps3 crowd will leave (after having had their fun) and the xbox group will move in.

Lets pray the wii group just never shows up!
