You may have heard the statement by people in the industry about how gaming is moving to handhelds and that console and PC gaming is in serious trouble.
At the same time it’s hard to believe that as awesome as Angry Birds is that it will replace our need for Call of Duty or Gears of War. Well while that may be true it’s going to be hard for any gaming publisher to ignore what Epic has just announced.
Epic’s iPhone title Infinity Blade has now officially passed $11 million in revenue and is still growing, it’s made an extra million in the last month and with a sequel obviously on the horizon it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that Epic are now focussing more on mobile and less on their other top titles like Gears of War, Unreal Tournament and others.
To be clear, they haven’t made this announcement yet but imagine the business case for either an Infinity Blade 2 already brought in $11m (2 million sales) on a smallish development budget compared to a new Unreal Tournament which only sold a million and that had huge distribution and marketing costs associated with it.
Oh and if you don’t have Infinity Blade yet then what are you waiting for, go get it now from iTunes
