Infinity Ward admits MW2 is hacked and can’t be fixed on the PS3… not until Sony fixes it’s mess

If you’re one of the millions of people still playing Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3 then you know all about the hacking that is going on at the moment. With people boosting their way up to 10th prestige and dragging you along with them whether you want to or not.

It’s become so endemic now that Infinity Ward has finally had to come out and make a statement but amazingly they are saying they cannot fix it and the problem itself lies in how badly the PS3 is protecting the code.

In simple terms they are saying they cannot fix anything until Sony does and the only thing they can recommend is to play private matches or buy Black Ops.. yes Infinity Ward suggests that Black Ops is more secure and is a better option for now.

Sony has recently acknowledged a breach in security on the PS3 which resulted in games to become exposed to exploits and hacks. Modern Warfare 2 is no exception to this security exploit and we understand that some of you have experienced problems with stats and other issues associated with this.

Games rely on the security of the encryption on the platforms they’re played on, therefore; updates to the game through patches will not resolve this problem, unless the security exploit itself is resolved on the platform. Regretfully, Call of Duty games are receiving the bulk of the hacker’s attention, due to its high player counts and popularity. However, the number of legitimate players severely outweighs the bad apples.

If you are concerned about playing with players who are hacking, I encourage you to play exclusively with friends by utilizing the party or private match options in Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty 4 to avoid such players as much as possible until this issue is resolved by Sony.

At this time, we do not have the ability to restore or adjust individual stats.
Let me assure you, while we are very reliant on Sony updating their firmware and security to address the core problem of this issue. We are looking at EVERY option available to us to help any user affected.

This only applies to legacy games such as Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. In the future we plan to adjust our approach to not rely solely on platform security and reduce the ability for this to happen in our games, as has already been displayed by the work Treyarch has done on Call of Duty: Black Ops to prevent similar measures.

What I don’t understand however is that these glitches have been around for ages now and the PS3 was only recently hacked… is their another PS3 security flaw that we don’t know about or are IW taking the cowards way out by trying to blame Sony instead of themselves?

lol, They can’t fix it, but Black Ops is OK?

I think there is some confusion here with can’t and won’t.

I’m so sick and tired of these hackers. I personally don’t blame any developer or console manufacturer for any of the hacks they have to contend with, they don’t deserver the flack they have been receiving lately.

How about rooting out those weeds of the gaming community called hackers.

Just look at the PS3’s gaming cousin, the PC, People hack games on PC all the time but game developers for PC games seem to look for and Fight it back well.

What’s interesting though is that COD MW2 had been exploited (A YEAR) before Geohot released the keys to the PS3 and even before the first bunch of jailbreaks. I’m interested to see how IW accounts for this slight temporal anomaly. As for COD Blops, it’s been exploited on PS3, X360 and PC. In that case, it would be safe to assume the problem is with Treyarch.

Infinity Ward you mean, the problem is with MW2 not black ops.

Expect Treyarch to use the same excuse pretty soon.

the problem isn’t with the hacks found by geohot, the problem existed prior to that hacks existence, IW is using this as an excuse to cover up a mistake made by their programmers. they may or may not be able to fix it. but they wont because the want you to buy black ops. which is also compromised. I do believe that what geohot is doing is legal and morally ok. i do not agree with what some people take as a free way to cheat and steal.

Modern Warfare 2 is now NOT fit for purpose and I believe that Activision/Sony should offer a full or partial refunds to those who wish to claim. I don’t expect to pay nearly £300 for a console and £45 for a game for some geek to be able to hack as and when they want.

You know what i say ? bullsh*t they just took the ps3’s “bad” security, so called, as an excuse not to pay money they’re probably looked into it and could easily find a solution but no, they don’t want to pay for it. That’s what i think. I think they’re lying.

You’re all fucking retards. Hackers aren’t the reason that gaming technology is good. N64 wasn’t necessarilly better than today’s gaming. You SHOULD blame the developer for not incorporating enough code to catch these things. Dedicated servers would be one thing.
