Injustice

The new, DC-infused fighting game from the creators of Mortal Kombat is out this week, letting comic-book fans finally answer the questions of who’d win in a no-holds-barred bit of fisticuffs between their favourite heroes and villains. Injustice: Gods Among Us brings comic-book battles to life on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this week – and here’s its launch trailer.

The game tells an alternate universe tale of Superman’s decent into madness, becoming a global despot after a tragedy that has him killing the ones he loves; and the heroes that are tasked with putting an end to his reign. A new story, penned in collaboration with comic-book writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti (the same folks who wrote MK vs DC Universe), Injustice continues the story-based fighting we saw in MK vs DCU and Mortal Kombat 9.

built on the same graphics engine, It’s easy to imagine it would just be a superhero reskin of Mortal Kombat, but it comes with a a wealth of new fighting mechanics, closer to Marvel vs Capcom in its button layout and general play – plus some shiny new Street Fighter-esque dash cancels for those who like a little depth in their fighters.

Here’s that trailer. Take a look – and tell us who you’ll be maining when the game’s released locally on Friday.

      true.

But I always think the “alternate” universe stuff a bit suspect. Writer comes up with great idea to “reboot” characters, but bosses are too scared to change cannon or something, so enter the alternate universe.

All is good because the Superman in OUR universe is the good guy, right?

And having just read that, I realise I am a bit unfair.

How else are we going to get cool stories to play with the characters we love?

You could use the good-ole Star-Trek-undo-everything-with-time-travel option.

Personally, I prefer the bizzaro-universe option.

Ah yes, but my wife WANTS to watch the new star trek movie. That is weird! And I am therefore biased.

And I think the undo everything with time travel is braver to do, from a cannon, point of view than a new, slightly different universe where anything goes. But this is why there are so many different things to read and do, I suppose. Something for everything, sort of.

Classic Star Trek episodes like Mirror Mirror do spring to mind (from 1967), but in that they went into different universe, were things where not the same and came out.

It should be illegal to class anyone that uses the word “Shazam” as a super hero.

I’m looking forward to this one, although I totally see this as a MK9 port with different models, just replace “X-Ray move” with “Location Change move”, still awesome though!

I pulled out MK9 over the weekend, instant thumb blister.
