Insomniac may hand Resistance to another developer

Insomniac’s Resistance 3 looks, in spite of its predecessors, something quite special. I like Resistance, it’s just never really pulled me in much. It’s headed exclusively to PlayStation 3’s next month. But what about Resistance 4?

It’ll likely be coming, but it might not be made by Insomniac. In an interview with Gaming Union, Insomniac Games’ creative director Marcus Smith admitted that it’s possible that the series might be pawned off to another developer. “I can definitely see that,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of different places for the universe to go, so I could certainly see the series going to another developer. I’m sure Sony would want to find a high caliber developer to do a good offering. I don’t think they’d hand the franchise over to somebody who is going to screw it up.

It makes sense. Resistance: Burning Skies for the PlayStation Vita is being handled by Nihilistic, while Sony Bend was responsible for Resistance Retribution on the PSP.

Despite the game’s critical success, he doesn’t especially consider Resistance to be the company’s flagship title. "We’ve done Resistance 3 and we’re really into it and proud of it, but we’re not currently slated to do a Resistance 4. So it would be hard to say it’s any kind of linchpin within Insomniac. I think we’re thriving and branching out in a lot of different directions."

PS3 fans might consider Insomniac a bunch of traitors; after years of making games exclusively for Sony’s platforms, the developer has decided to go multiplatform. Its first game to hit the 360 in addition the PS3 is the delightful looking Overstrike.
