Interesting Mass Effect 2 Stats, and What They’ll be Used For

ME2

More people played as the soldier class than every other class combined. did you know that about mass effect 2? Me neither, but now I do – thanks to IGN and a Casey Hudson, Executive Producer for the series. How do they know?

Well, apparently Mass Effect 2’s got a little bit of an Orwellian nature about it, as it’s been tracking stats for players across both currently available versions of the game. Don’t worry though, Bioware aren’t going to use that information to send you mails about increasing the size of your penis.

No, this information will be used to help make Mass Effect 3 a better game for everybody.

“The only data that we get are in terms of events — little things that happen in the game,” explained series producer Casey Hudson.

“Let’s say if we want to know whether players skip lines of dialogue, we can have that become a little event that gets sent up. It’s all completely anonymous, so all we get is raw numbers for how many times these kinds of events occur. There are some things regarding difficulty and weapons and things like that and those are easier to tune, but there won’t be a huge opportunity to include this stuff for the PS3 version,” he said.

"Ultimately what it means for players is that we don’t have to guess anymore about what players are doing. We can actually learn about what they like and what they don’t like and just try to focus on building the good stuff."

Here are the stats :

Me2stats

Look, I loved Mass Effect 2 – it’s probably one of the best games I’ve ever played…but 28 times? is that not a little excessive? Ps3 owners will find out next year, when the game releases for their console of choice in January.

28, that’s prolly a PC in an internet cafe of sorts. and 66 hours is easy to rack up if you leave your the normandy floating out in space while you go away for the weekend.

Damn that is excessive. Well if anyone is studying in the field of psychology then heres the direction you go ppl. Gaming addiciton seems real and its growing.

I cant understand why ppl always pick the soldier class in every RPG its so generic and boring. I played as the Biotic/Adept and then the Infiltrator/stealth class and they were both fantastic. Ill try the Vangaurd class when i get the PS3 version with all the DLC. Funny enough i never have tried the Engineer class. Ill have to give it a shot in ME3 because you just know those pathetic stats mean that Bioware will go to town on the engineer class and give him some really cool powers for ME3.

Its also a pity that 50% of players never finished the game :cwy:

I think this shows the relevance of the stats. It shows that most people pick Soldier, most probably because they are just going with something simple that they know. A lot of people get put off by extra abilities and things like that, and just want to go forth and kick ass.

A big shame considering how awesome the biotics are. Hopefully they do something that will open up the other classes to people more, even as simple as renaming a class like Vanguard to… let’s say – Mercenary or something.

What’s wrong with the Engineering class? Damnit Bioware don’t you dare take it away because of these uncultured heathens… Only 20% played as a female character? Why would you want to look at the behind of a guy, if you can stare at the voluptuous and sexy rear of a female character.

    I just don’t get it… 😮

The problem is that the main story arc is a bit of a bullet fest so there is never any apparent benefit to choosing the engineer or infiltrator classes. I played Infiltrator and Vanguard , and Vanguard’s biotics were cool but none of the infiltrators abilities were ever of any particular value. I would love to see RPG’s where they have a “many ways to skin a cat approach to game design”. Soldier can storm the base all guns blazing , infiltrator can sneak throught the vents and blow up the reactor core or the silver tongued types could negotiate a peaceful settlement. Each strategy could earn its own unique set of rewards.

Unfortunately if the mission requires you to shoot everything in site there is no real incentive to choose anything other than the garden variety Tank class.
