IO Interactive claiming bad Kane & Lynch 2 reviews are purely down to people “not getting it”

 Kane and Lynch

Kudo’s to IO Interactive for even talking about the Kane & Lynch 2 reviews after the debacle that surrounded the originals reviews.

However they haven’t entirely toned down the rhetoric as they have come out and stated that the low reviews are probably down to the reviewers just not getting it as the game has also received some fantastic reviews.

And you know what I actually agree with them. I had some hands on time with K&L2 at E3 this year and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, however the handling was odd and I did feel a little sick after a while of bobbing up and down. On one side it allows you to immerse yourself into the game more and on the other side there is a high probability of redecorating your lounge after a long session.

I guess for me it’s akin to reviewing Cloverfield, in my mind that movie was an abomination that should never have made it to DVD never mind the fact it actually appeared in cinemas. However it was actually well received by many critics.

The crux of this little speech, it can be possible that people just don’t get games and review them negatively for that. However using that as an excuse is pretty lame, just take it on the chin and move on the game received great scores from other people.

My rant was inspired by Jim’s original rant over at Destructoid, check it out for the other side of the coin.

Having been one of the ones who got the game, I must say that I’m one of those who would have to agree with the people who gave the game a bad review. So you can’t really classify me as one of the above.

My reasons for saying the game is crap?

Storyline is whiney, slow and doesn’t quite get to the point…3/10

Gameplay has been improved somewhat from the original but is still a bit annoying 5/10

Graphics is somewhat better but was still a bit glitchy on my pc 5/10

Sound was just about the only thing that made the game…nuff said 7/10

So to be quite honest, the game was WAY too short for the amount of money spent (I finished it in under 2 hours).

Overall score 5/10. Which isn’t too bad I suppose, but IO interactive could have done better imho.

2 hours… that would result in an incredibly low score.

I like short games, but anything under 5 hours is insanely short

The low reviews scores are because the game is shit, the visual style and funky effects only hides the crappy game engine for about 30 minutes

    Exactly spl0it.

Gavin, I’m speaking under correction but I think there was about 6 levels in total. All of them so inanely short, it might as well have been a popcap minigame.

I suppose they meant for the game to be a multiplayer hit, but do you really hear people dropping World of Warcraft or Halo or other games just to play Kane & Lynch 2 multiplayer? I think not!

I spent about 20 minutes on the first and wanted to throw the controller through the TV.

Sounds like someone is channelling M.Night Shyamalan…

“Nooo waaahh my movies are not bad waaahhh, it’s just that you troglodytes can’t comprehend the brilliance of my genius waaahhhh”

You hit the nail on the head Bobby. I wish people would just stfu and accept that they make shitty games. As was mentioned in a previous article yesterday, accept it as constructive criticism, move on, and make a better game next time.

Or as with Kane & Lynch, stop making pointless games!

Luckily I played a friend’s copy and gave it back to him asap. I did see it in a bargain bin for R50 though. Pity the poor souls that even forked out that much.
