According to investment company, Cowen and Company, the two big hitting titles from last month are both failing to gain traction at retail and as such they expect them both to miss their sales targets.

According to the latest estimates, both games have performed pretty poorly. This doesn’t compare well with the previous Gears title selling over 2 million units in its first month and God of War 3 topping the million mark.

When People Can Fly released Bulletstorm it was received with critical praise but less than stellar sales figures, at the time the previous president of Epic Games, Mike Capp, stated

The next thing we do with People Can Fly will be great,

Well as much as I enjoyed Gears of War: Judgement when it comes to the finer details of actually making a profit it doesn’t look good when your last two big name titles flopped.

People Can Fly can be proud of the titles they made but unless they can find a way to turn that pride into profit we may see them go the way of the dodo in the near future.

I also think this could be the end of the line for the Gears of War and God of War franchises.

But while we are here, let’s also take a look at the rumoured DLC and new skins coming to Gears of War; Judgement that were leaked today.

First off we have 5 new maps

Maybe they just released at a bad time? People were still enjoying Tomb Raider AND Bioshock Infinite.

I must say Im very disappointed with Gears Judgment, its inferior to the previous titles…and the DLC you will be getting with the season pass should have been added to the launch game for free IMO….

But I wont say the franchise is dead at all, I believe that we will see another prequel with Marcus and Dom with the next gen Xbox 😀

If anybody thinks the sales performances of two prequels that nobody wanted and had terrible marketing and advertisement signifies that two of the biggest and most acclaimed franchises are at ‘the end of the line’ then you’re a complete fucking moron with no sense for business. GoW & GeoW are Sony’s/Microsoft’s 2nd biggest exclusive franchises, they will continue for many more years.

And the numbers released by the analyst from Cowen and Company stated they were just ESTIMATES. He could be wrong, very wrong. Why is every site quoting him like it’s a fact? I think he is massively wrong and both games did a lot better than they think and we’ll see how wrong they are when we get NPD numbers tomorrow (I’m betting that both games sold in the 450,000-650,000 range in the US which is fantastic even if it’s not close to their predecessors).

The fact that both games have already sold over 1 million copies proves how popular both series are, even with piss poor to no support from Sony/Microsoft they still make big money and sell very well. Just because they didn’t sell as well as the finale in both series’ main trilogies doesn’t mean they sold poorly.

And If the weakest games in both series with the worst marketing/advertisement campaigns and releasing at the end of the consoles cycle can still sell over 1 million copies in less than three weeks then imagine how well God of War IV and Gears of War 4 will do next generation.

God of War III reviews averages around 95% from all of the respected sites making it one of the most acclaimed games ever (92.71 MC / 92.63 GR) and it sold over 6 million copies, it is extremely beloved and left everyone wanting God of War IV to see what happened to Kratos after the end credits and where the story would go (Egyptian mythology? Norse? etc).

Gears of War 3 reviews average around 90% from all of the respected sites (90.61 MC/ 91.49 GR) and it has sold almost 6 million copies, it was huge and beloved and left fans wanting more going forward. It closed off the series in a way that made it seem impossible to go forward but they’ll find a way, it’s a good and big universe they created.

Both series will be back next generation and will be bigger and better than ever.

or maybe their hardcore fans are pissed because of all the unjustifiable changes, and dumbing down of Gears’ core mechanics to appeal to the casual gamer. Or they were pissed about the pathetic amount of game modes and maps that are included at launch. Everyone had something to be pissed about
