Is Halo 5 going to be an open world shooter?

If I tell you that there is a huge open world shooter coming later this year you would be forgiven for thinking that I’m talking about Destiny. But it’s actually the Destiny developers’ old game that is rumoured to be going open world.

According to yet another industry insider, who appear to be around every corner just before E3, Halo 5 is going to be more or less open world.

I agree with Ahsan that it would be very ambitious but personally I don’t see this as a good idea for 343 Industries.

Destiny is a $500 million juggernaut and is more than likely going to have a Halo feel to it. Making a new Halo similar to Destiny is only going to play into the hands of Activision and Bungie as they have virtually no chance of matching the quality that sort of money can buy.

Halo is a much loved game, in America, so changing that winning formula doesn’t make much sense to me even though the idea of a huge open world single player campaign could be the big differentiator between Destiny and Halo.

I’ve always been a great fan of the single player portions of Halo but the multiplayer has always felt a bit out dated to me. The Forge mode was a nice addition a few years back but nothing has been added to it since then that has really interested me.

As long as the “open world” is as big as Skyrim or Auraxis, then I’m game!

will probably be more like Borderlands type of open world.
In that sense, it seems like a cop out on level design.

Open world Halo sounds fun, justifies spending the 500 million on destiny, consider it practise for a better game.

the bigger question will be “Halo 5 on PS4/PC?”

I can see it coming to PC due to the coding already being there. Will they give them enough money to do it? Probably not.

the PC generation has always been curious about Halo, I reckon it has potential to make serious dollar bills

The problem with that though is they specifically state on the trailer that “Your journey begins on the Xbox One” making it sound like it’s only going to be on XBone. Then again, since it says “Begins” who knows if it will be released at a later date on PC.

That could be said about Forza Motorsport as well. Considering they were showcasing it running using the DirectX 12 as if their plans were to have it implemented across the board once it gets released.

PC is a possibility, but why would Microsoft allow an IP it owns to go on a Sony platform? No sense to that at all.

PC doesn’t even make much sense honestly. Microsoft needs console sellers. There’s no point in putting it out to PC, Microsoft would likely lose a decent amout of money in potential Xbox One sales.

Its had PC releases in the past, but with Games for Windows Live going under, new possibilities might be available.

The difference is Activision is spending 500 million on a new ip developing the same game for 4 different consoles. Where Microsoft has been focused on creating a game for an established brand which will release only on the Xbox one.

Give us an open world, partly MMO. Give us a story, a quest to track down The Chief being the main goal, with different ones along the way that allow us to arrive at the end goal differently. Give us customizable weapons and upgrades (Like taking a Forerunner artifact/weapon piece and upgrading a magnum with it). Give us every single gun in the Halo Universe, with several different customization paths for each. retain multiplayer. Throw as many enemies as possible at us. Give us our own individual Spartan IV which we name and customize, in skill set and appearance, finding new armor stylings and upgrades on the way (like visors, helmets, and others as rewards or loot). Maybe then, will people not only flock to halo but buy an Xbox One to play one of the greatest most interesting Open World First Person Role Playing Games of all time.

No way 343i can match that sort of quality only money can buy? Am I the only one here who sees that huge shadow behind 343i?
You know, the really, really big shadow that finances the studio, which also created some other OS for phones and computers? The one that partnered with Nokia?

Yeah, it’s Microsoft. I’d wager they got a bit more cash than Activision at the moment.
