Is Nintendo Hurting The Casual Market?

The Wii Motion Plus was something that should have actually been incorporated into the Wii’s controls from the start, I know it, you know it and I am pretty sure that Nintendo knows it.

Adding proper motion sensing to the Wii- mote means that so many games will now feature a whole lot less waggling for no good reason.

Problem is, that Nintendo have announced that the new add-on will not work with any older games, nor will they be bothering to update any of them to add on the extra functionality.

A Nintendo spokesperson has said that “The Wii MotionPlus accessory is only for games that are designed to make use of its abilities”

So any wannabe Wii owners will now have to fork out for the console, an extra remote, two nunchucks and two Wii Motion Plus add ons, just to make sure that they can play any game that they want without issues.

Sounds like an issue in itself to me. Nintendo is taking the casual gamers for a ride in my opinion, and in the end, I think that it will hurt the industry.

  1. That is Nintendo for you, you have to purchase everything at a ridiculous price. You buy the wii mote, oh it doesn’t come with the nunchuk.
