Is Remedy teasing a new Alan Wake?

The co-writer of 'Allo 'Allo, David Croft, died at the age of 89.His family said "He pissed away in his slop."

What’s next for Remedy Games and their beleaguered novelist, turned supernatural writer, Alan Wake? You’d think that after five years of developing a game, and adding a PC port, DLC and a new arcade title, Remedy would be ready to give their hero some much needed time off.

That may not be happening though, as lead writer Sam Lake has just gone and published a short story, hinting towards the return of Wake and the terror of the oncoming darkness.

A tweet last night from Lake, gave cryptic clues towards an event happening in the small town of Ordinary. “It’s happening now”, says the tweet, which contained a link to the following short story, part of it here;

In the dream I was visiting the previous owner of my house at the nursing home, only in the dream the owner wasn’t a sweet old lady, he was a man, and he wasn’t old, he was a young man with a dark hair – very good looking in fact. I remember that he was wearing a funny jacket with old-fashioned elbow patches.

I was there to find out about the shoebox, but he was very agitated and didn’t listen to me. The place was brightly lit, it was sunny outside, but he was still very anxious and wanted me to turn all the lights on.

He kept going on about the place being too dark. I remember being certain that all the lights were on already, but that didn’t calm him down. In the end he was screaming for me to turn the lights on. I was also starting to freak out, starting to think that something horrible was coming to take us away, and that’s when I woke up.

Remedy hasn’t exactly been secretive when it comes to the continuation of Alan Wake and his story, with studio head of franchise development Oskari Hakkinen still telling VG247 that American Nightmare was not the final instalment for the reality-rewriting writer.

“Alan Wake in general, the intellectual property, is ours, and it’s not the last you’re seeing of Alan Wake,” Hakkinen said back then. While the 2010 original was a more suspenseful experience that made me start using a night light again before bedtime, American Nightmare traded that experience for deja vu cycles and more action.

Still, if Remedy can somehow combine the strong points of both properties, then it just might be time again to prove that the pen is indeed mightier than the darkness possessed civilian with a chainsaw.
