Is Resistance dead?

Resistance

Resistance: Fall of Man, created by insomniac Games, was one of the PlayStation 3’s launch titles – and went on to spawn a sequel or two. The rather excellent, but sadly overlooked Resistance 3 was the last fully-fledged title released – and it seems like it could be the series last.

Insomniac Games has left the Sony exclusive party and decided to go Multiplatform. The first of their new console-spanning games will be the rather intriguing Overstrike – but it’s left Resistance in Sony’s hands. “We won’t be making any more Resistances,” Insomniac CEO Ted Price confirmed.

Sony went on to release the Nihilistic developed Resistance: Burning Skies, the first twin-sticked first person shooter on handhelds, for the PlayStation Vita but it was a buggy, broken and uninspired mess. It was also probably the final nail in the series coffin. Sony has now said that it’s not committed to keeping the series alive.

“The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on but as for the future we have no definitive plans,” said Sony producer Daniel Brooke to OPM.

It really is quite the shame – as Resistance 3 more than proved the series mettle. If you’re one of the many PlayStation gamers who gave Resistance 3 a skip (because let’s be honest, the first two games were decent, but far from great) then I recommend you remedy that situation – and you can do so on the cheap. The game’s one of the many titles available for close to nothing – and is well worth picking up.
