Is the Kinect causing a new round of RROD?

In what can only be described as a PR disaster in the making the BBC website is reporting that the massively successful Kinect is causing older Xbox 360 models to Red Ring.

Microsoft has been very quick to deny any link between the Kinect and the latest spate of RROD’s but you will recall they used to deny the RROD even really existed until it became painfully obvious that it couldn’t be avoided any longer.

It is possible that the new spate of RROD’s is related to unused consoles finally being booted up again when littly Johnny finds a Kinect under his Christmas tree and then overheating thanks to dust build up… or they jsut can’t handle the extra juice that is being pushed through the USB ports…

Either way Microsoft need to get a handle on this quickly before it starts affecting its recently rebuilt reputation.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say it didn’t show the comments box because there was no existing comments. But that begs a question, shouldn’t it bring up some sort of “Make new comment” button or some such thing?

Still odd, because it did exactly that for me. 😀
          Disqus teething problems, no doubt.

Yeah I’ll keep an eye on it to see if I can get it to happen again.

    I don’t think it’s Kinect.

First, the Kinect has to have power from the wall to run. This doesn’t mean that more power is going through the system, it means less is. The new Xbox S actually has more power going through it for Kinect since it supplies the power.

Second, this happens EVERY time something popular comes out on Xbox. Why? More people are using their Xboxes. More use = more wear. More wear on an Xbox = more pretty blinking red lights. A simple concept, to me. 🙂
