Very probably not, if we’re being honest. While reports of a newer, smaller PlayStation 4 are inevitable, I think it’s a little too soon for it to happen. That hasn’t stopped this series of confidential images purporting to be the first pictures of a diminutive PlayStation 4 from flooding the internet.
The images come from Multiplayer.it, and show a significantly smaller, trimmer PS4 – that seems to have its disc input and buttons on the side. Beyond being a silly design, it’s actually too damned small and would be a nightmare for heat dissipation.
According to the pictures, it has the codename “monolith,” which is a moniker that’s been applied to the PS4 since its inception, thanks to its resemblance to the stone slab from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I’m going to straight up call this rumour little more than a hoax – and as far as I’m concerned, a bad one. Here are the pics though, so you can decide for yourself.
Sony, of course, does like to release new hardware iterations. Sony released the slim PlayStation 3 in September 2009, nearly 3 years after the console was first released. It took another 3 years before we saw a PS3 with an even smaller form factor. Just over a year in its lifecycle, I think it’s far too soon for a hardware refresh.
What do you think? Real, or obvious fake?

The PS4’s already small, saying you want a slim is like saying you want an anorexic.

Fake. The power and eject buttons are poorly photoshopped on … they are unaligned and skew, and don’t match the visual plane of the disc slot or the box. Furthermore, the disc slot is a visual anomaly which could not realistically look that way (based on the slanting of the box).

I think you need your eyes checked. All of that actually checks out. All of that is legit.
This looks like a 3D mockup, not a fake Photoshopping.

And just so everyone knows – I think it’s a fake too, but it’s really easy to create a 3D mockup on a white background,

Cool … then you obviously realized that if this design was genuine, there’s no why this console would be able to stand vertically, since in a vertical position, the 60-degree slant of the top and bottom would make it fall over. Considering that there are pictures showing it standing vertically, this implies that either the console is top-loading when vertical … or it’s fake.

it has a little stand though. It never stands vertically without something at the base.

The PS4 has been selling really well. What’s it over 20 million already in just over a year. I’m sure Sony was maybe expecting 2+ years to reach that point. So PS4 selling so much so fast means that it will run out of steam sooner. If Sony releases a slim model at the end of this year with a price cut, PS4 is just going to keep on selling like biltong.

In all honesty the PS4 does not really need a slim version it’s already tiny. The Xb1 on the otherhand I know people with gaming PC’s smaller than that thing =p
As for this fake lol.

rather they just make larger hard-drives standard, because I know 500 gb will not be enough, and buying a 1 tb or more on top of a ps4 is expensive.

I agree, it will be AGES until we get to upgrade to 4TB drives in a 2.5″ size at a affordable price.

The angled design is so shit! Makes it impossible to plug in cables at the back. Worst design feature of the PS4

The PS4 is already slim. I still do not understand how they managed to get it smaller than the Bone and include the power brick inside the console.
