Is Your Living Room Large Enough For Project Natal?

Some concern has been raised recently due to a report from website Techflash that states that the space needed for Project Natal to operate correctly needs to be pretty big.

Most of the concern came from Japan (you know, that country with all the Xbox 360 owners *cough*) due to the living quarters being a lot smaller on average. The report had the following to say with regards to the space requirements:

“To be precise, you’ll want to clear an area extending at least 4 meters (a little more than 13 feet) away from the television.”

Crap in a hat, did that just say four meters?

Indeed it did, but it seems like we have less to worry about than we initially feared. Kotaku recently spoke to Microsoft on the matter and have received the following comments:

“The comments recently about the play space for ‘Project Natal’ were misinterpreted,”.

“It is true that the ‘Project Natal’ sensor reads the configuration of your room and adjusts play space, as appropriate. We know that living rooms come in all shapes and sizes, and have conducted numerous play tests to ensure everyone will be able to jump off the couch and into the fun when ‘Project Natal’ launches globally this holiday.”

This pretty much silences any concerns that were being voiced about the size requirements. That is of course, if Microsoft are telling the truth.

The real question still remains. Will we be able to play Natal while taking a bus into town using one of those nifty Ben Heck Xbox laptop conversions?
