It looks like Shadow of Mordor’s getting a GOTY edition

TALION MY WAYWARD SON

I really enjoyed Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. Yes, it may have played a bit loose with Tolkien’s work and much f it may have been repetitive, generic high fantasy stuff – but it was an oddly empowering game that made me feel like a real bad-ass. It also had that much lauded Nemesis system, that injected personality in to what would otherwise be a boring bunch of orks. It was a bit like a less-bloated Assassin’s Creed, with better, more fulfilling combat. IT’s snapped up a wealth of Game of the Year awards – and now it looks like it’s getting a Game of the Year edition.

That’s according to the Australian ratings board, which functions much like our own FPB, only probably more efficiently and without as much bureaucratic red tape. According to them, Warner Bros put in classification for a Game of the Year Edition of Shadow of Mordor yesterday. Presumably, it’ll contain all of the game’s DLC to date, and..um..not very much else. As is usually with GOTY editions of games, it’ll probably be worth it if you’ve not played the game and want to see what all the fuss is about, or have upgraded to a newer console since last year, because the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of Shadow of Mordor was just plain ugly, and missing half of what made the game so much fun to play in the first place.

The biggest problem with a re-release is that while the base game is really good, none of its DLC has been, making this a rather uncompelling collection – and you could probably pick the game up right now for cheap. We have no idea when it’s coming, but we do now know that it’s a thing.

Yeah. But if Little Piet on his blog called it Game of the Year on his blog, then devs won’t hesitate to stick a GOTY sticker on a box

It doesn’t matter if Little Piet called it Game of the Year or not, they’ll still stick a GotY sticker on it because the marketing department called it Game of the Year in one of their meetings.

Yeah, but at least they can put “littlepiet.wordpress.com” below the Game of the Year quote printed on the sticker.
          You know. Validation.

I agree with you Geoff. Definitely not really worth getting the DLC’s. Just grab the base game, which is really good, and there you go.

There were tons of great games last year. It’s just that only “AAA” games are considered by most reviewers.

I am glad more people are realising that 2014 was a dud for AAA games. Honestly I think it was the worst year in gaming since I can remember. I am all for Indie games by the way as they let new ideas and ip into the market, but I hope you all dont want them to stay small, I want them to grow and eventually become AAA in their own right.

Yeah, but to me GOTY just means the full game with all DLC package in. Could care less about the actual meaning of GOTY

Couldn’t care less. Could. Not. If you could care less, then you care some to begin with.

How do people get this wrong so frequently?

One of the few good games to come out of 2014. It really was a terrible year in gaming.

I agree 2014 was one of the worst on record, and Shadow on Snore More wasnt that good either.

I honestly had one of my best years in gaming last year. Just so many brilliant titles.

Shadow of Mordor isn’t even on the top five, but it was good. A lot of rinse and repeat and practically a Batman game set in Mordor, but still tons of fun.

Isnt that why people played so many indies in 2014, because of the lack of good AAA’s.

I think 2014 may actually have done a huge favour for indies, as you say.
It really shifted a lot of attention to them.

I dunno… A good year for remasters maybe yes.. But the rest of the time.. Owning a PS4 or Xbone for that matter was a bit of a waste… Even majority of last years’ PS+ games were mediocre at best.

You can still downvote, but it only shows the red marker, not how many total downvotes (a nice feature since some trolls like to go on a downvote binge, as if they have some sort of magical power)
