It looks like Valve is working on Left 4 Dead 3

It’s no great surprise to hear that Valve is working on a sequel to the very popular Left 4 Dead 2 but it looks like this has now been confirmed by a leaked picture of what appears to be the internal Valve source control change log.

So do you see the exciting bit? Well here it is blown up for you

Yeah it’s a terrible picture but you can quite clearly see it says

“[Source2] Restored L4D3’s devtest unit test. Ran locally 6 times without an asset. There may be”

Okay yeah I’m lying that isn’t clear at all but it definitely says L4D3 and the gist of it is a developer stating

“Hey it works on my machine”

So nice to see that gaming developers aren’t so different from us corporate wage slaves. We can also see that the code was worked on in June… or is that April of 2013? More importantly, it pints towards it being done in a new Source 2 engine – which will obviously spark off Half-Life 3 rumours. At this point, I don’t think Half-Life 3 could ever live up to the hype that surrounds it; Half-Life could end up being the new Duke Nukem Forever.

So are you excited about another Left 4 Dead title? I know I am but that’s mainly because I missed the action around the last one while I was travelling. It’s always been a hole in my life.

Well, played and enjoyed L4D 1 and 2. Currently busy with Dead Island.

Nothing like kicking zombie ass in a group of 4.

What’s more fun than kicking zombie ass? Kicking zombie ass with 3 of your buds!

Valve certainly used to be my favourite game studio, but with this continual focus on multiplayer only games and overplayed popular themes such as the current Zombie fad I can’t help but lose respect for the blatant cash grabbing antics.

Yes, they are a business and profit is key, but lets not forget how they cut their teeth in the market producing some of the highest quality original single player experiences to date. I bought and played HL1 and 2 as well as all of the expansions and the series remains one of my all time favourites. I have very little interest in online gaming and limit my multiplayer experiences to the odd LAN FPS session with a few friends so perhaps I’m not your average modern gamer, but I sure as shit feel a little betrayed the Valve has not made the effort to conclude the Half Life series after it was so well supported by so many.
