It's a race – HDD loading vs straight DVD

As you may already know the new Xbox Experience is bringing with it idiotic installs for the Xbox 360.

So since this is now a forgone conclusion lets take a look at the incredible difference in loading times between the two…

Personally I would rather wait longer and take the risk on my laser than accept installs on a console… but it is my pet hate after all.

Then you might rethink your situation..

Wow this site is a South African tourist attraction namely: The wine route.

Installs are optional so here’s an idea… Don’t install it.
It’s happening like it or not.
Pick up your pitch forks and torches when installs become mandatory, then we can riot and get mad – till then appreciate that MS are making some changes and not freaking charging you for it for once.

I got no problems with installs. Guess it will bother me on the 360 since I did not yet try to upgrade its HDD to something bigger. But waiting for something to install, seriously, why be upset about it? Also keep in mind that it does not only improve loading times between levels but also streaming of textures and other data when games do make use of it.

I had this option on my original xbox 1 and it was a good
thing, load a game play it for weeks, but must say i also had a 300 Meg hdd in it, and you did not have to have the
disc in the tray any more, if Microsoft could just do something that you don’t need the disc in every time you want to play it would work 100%.

Ok cool, a little faster, thats nice. But come on show us something the really needs a HDD install like Mass Effect. I want to see how reduced the texture pop in is. And I want to see if the frame rate gets smoother or if Bioware just did a bad job of optimizing the engine.

    Not a bad idea Imho.

As long as it is a choice thing, it would not bother me.

i would have loved this option with Force Unleashed. Awesome game but lots of framerate drops. I’m sure there would have been less drops if i’d been running off the HDD.

Unforunately, (here’s where Lazy’s gripe comes in) with only 20GB and loads of DLC, i can probably only install 1 game at a time.
