Half-Life 3 may be a pipe dream that’ll never be realised in this lifetime, but that doesn’t mean that Valve’s intellectual property isn’t going to resurface in one form or another in the years to come. One such project was rumoured to be on the horizon yesterday, a virtual reality title by the name of Half-Life: Alyx. Is it real? Yes friends, yes it is because Valve just confirmed it:

A full reveal will come on Thursday, at around 8PM on our side of the globe. If the rest of the leaks pan out properly, Half-Life: Alyx will be Valve’s flagship title for their Index VR kit, and will star beloved Half-Life 2 companion Alyx Vance doing virtual reality…stuff. Stay tuned for more concrete details on Thursday I guess!

It’s almost like Gabe and Valve have serious performance anxiety concerning Half-life 3.

Or they know if they ever release it fans have built themselves up to the point that it could literally be the best game of all time and it still wouldn’t meet fan expectations. Because that’s what’ll happen. Fans did this to themselves.

I actually hate Valve at this moment in time. They are pushing a VR title from a franchise every gamer worth their salt loves. This is like torture! They know we’ve been screaming for HL3 for decades, and now they push this VR crap onto us from the same franchise! Really Valve!!!!!!!!! I am so pissed off now!

True, but most people won’t even get to play this game as VR isn’t exactly mainstream! Even here in SA, you’d be luck to get a decent VR headset for less than R10,000!

Uhm … Makro or game had a special on the vive for R8k just the other day. Also black friday is soon. I mean yeah when I bought my original vive it was R23k but these days they are far more affordable. Hell they are cheaper than the gfx cards required to run them properly.

When I did a quick search on Google, aside from a few entry level setups, most suppliers had them for over R10k. I guess you could get an entry level setup, but I don’t know how much difference there is between them and the more high-end versions. I’m no expert on VR setups unfortunately.

The Vive Vive Pro and Valve Index are modular. So you can buy a Vive kit and then later buy the Valve Index Controllers (Best controllers on the market) and then later maybe upgrade the base stations to the index ones and then finally get a Valve Index headset. That is just one combo. As for the Original Vive. It still is well worth getting as only the Vive Pro and Valve Index has better screen heights.

I suggest staying away from the Oculus as they close down their platform and the tracking is terrible. They do sit slightly more comfortable than the Vive though. Have not really had a Vive Pro on my head for a lengthy period and have yet to even see a index.

“Every gamer worth their salt”. A little presumptuous to expect everyone to love the Half Life franchise, isn’t it?

I don’t love it. I mean, HL2 was a good game. A little too easy but still fun. But certainly not worth crying over like so many do. Seriously. It’s. Just. A. Game.
