Jade Raymond leaves Ubisoft

Watch_Dogs, Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell. There’s something in common between all three of those games, aside from the fact that they’ve all been housed under Ubisoft’s name. Mega Produce Jade Raymond has had her hands in all of those pies, but today she’s announced her departure from Ubisoft.

Now the former Managing Director of Ubisoft Toronto, Jade Raymond has been a household name in gaming for years. She formed part of the team that founded Ubisoft Toronto in 2009, with work on Splinter Cell: Blacklist following shortly after. Since then the Toronto branch has been a hub for multiple titles, including this year’s Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed: Unity.

Co-Founder of the Toronto branch, Alexandre Parizeau, is set to replace Raymond on October 29th. Raymond describes her departure as “one of the hardest decisions of my career.”

“I’ve spent 10 extraordinary years at Ubisoft, and I am proud to have been part of many of the best teams in the industry making truly remarkable games. This is one of the hardest decisions of my career, but the Toronto studio is strong and on a solid path. I’m confident that now is a good time for me to transition leadership of the studio to Alex and to pursue my other ambitions and new opportunities. Stay tuned for more on what’s next for me, but for now, I’d like to thank Ubisoft for its partnership through the years, and I wish them the very best in all their next endeavours.”

What’s next from Raymond is anyone’s guess at the moment, but I’m really eager to see what she does with her decades of experience. Raymond was a massive influence on the early days of the Assassin’s Creed franchise and managed to transform the Splinter Cell series with Blacklist. She’s a phenomenal producer and game designer, which only makes her future far more interesting to follow.

I think its a good time to move and a good time to bring in some fresh air. Ubisoft is now following a McDonalds conveyor belt of diminishing returns when it comes to their games imo. The formula stays the same, only the ingredients differ.

She is the reason why Assassins Creed still exists after fighting tooth and nail to prevent the Ubi powers from canning the new IP after only selling just under 1 million units of Assassins Creed 1.

Look at the 12 million Assassins Creed 3 sales now 🙂
