Although we pretty much all knew it was happening eventually, the reveal of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided came as a little welcome surprise last week. I’ve been dying for a sequel to the stellar Human Revolution since I finished it years ago, if only to see how proper boss fights would play out. The Missing Link DLC gave a good indication of what they could’ve been, but Mankind Divided is taking things a few steps further.
Eidos Montreal have already stated that outsourcing boss battles isn’t going to happen again, which is already a major plus in the Mankind Divided book. Unavoidable, combat heavy boss fights were an absolute nightmare for stealthy Jensen players like myself, and although Missing Link allowed me to keep to the shadows it still forced me to confront a target. Mankind Divided, in a sense, is making these boss battles optional.
Responding to fans on Twitter, Game Director Jean-François Dugas confirmed that you can sneak past boss battles entirely if you wish – and complete the game without a single augmented soul laying eyes on you.

Not only that, but the unique conversation-based boss fights from Human Revolution will also make a return, giving you more options to deal with foes rather than letting them stare down the barrel of your assault rifle.

Dugas also confirmed other smaller details, such as the return of the testing “Give me Deus Ex” difficulty setting, camera control being similar to Human Revolution and that the team working on Mankind Divided is relatively unchanged. That’s still very scarce, non-essential information, but considering it hasn’t even been a week since reveal it’s to be expected.
Here’s to hoping that we won’t have to wait long for a proper look at gameplay though. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is being developed for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

I only played the Directors Cut then discovered when I got stuck into The Missing Link that I had already played that mission in chronological order in the DC. I was so disappointed when I realised that I had already completed the whole expansion I was looking forward to playing.

Yeah, it’s next on my ‘Nostalgia Tour’, as I’m dubbing it. Recently completed all 3 Bioshocks, am now busy with Batman Arkham Asylum and Deus Ex: HR will be next! Can’t wait to get stuck in again – even bought the Director’s Cut so I can experience everything again, with all the extras (played and finished it when it was first released).
