Katamari Creator Leaves Namco-Bandai, Possibly Gaming Industry

Amongst all the excitement of TGS, its been sadly confirmed that one of the most oddball auteurs of the gaming industry has left his publisher, and perhaps even the gaming industry.

Keita Takahashi resigned from Namco-Bandai, and called it a “so-so company”. That doesn’t sound like a happy happy.

He has shown a disillusionment in the industry. “At E3 I saw people putting on speeches, but I thought the future seemed a bit dark. The 3D games didn’t spark my interest… I think motion control’s a bit old now, I don’t think those games are the future. It all seemed a bit dull.”

He isn’t pleased with himself either. “I am so inefficient I only made four games in 11 years.” He is now designing a children’s playground in England, and isn’t showing much in the way of getting back into videogame designing. He is “actually not thinking about a future in games… I want to try lots of different things.”

Good luck to you, Mr. Takahashi, and we hope to see what other crazy things are in that head of yours.
