Kaz Hirai talks and actually makes sense

Kaz Hirai

Kaz Hirai has long been one of my favourite executives, not because he is really good at his job or is a shining light in our industry… but because he is so passionate about Sony that he often shoots his mouth off with absolute garbage that gives us pages and pages of news to report on.

However this one is different, Kaz has managed to get his viewpoint across about hardcore gamers in a good way and makes a whole lot of sense.

According to Kaz Hirai

“A console always needs a solid core of games that appeal to gamers…If you go mainstream too quickly and don’t support the core gaming audience then you lack the pillar to support your platform. Without this pillar you end up with a fickle audience that might be big but will probably move on.”

Now I completely agree with him and if Sony are serious about a ten year life cycle then getting the hardcore gamers on your side is really important.

However on the other hand Darren, if Nintendo or Microsoft release their next console before the PS3 has it’s strong base they could be left hanging completely.

In a manner it does make sense, but its like they’re starving their customers, by only releasing something awesome every other year.. No wonder they stated a 10 year life cycle ,you wait forever just to get the game you bought the console for

That would be a reference to Darren Scott who presents
Boots&All on Supersport with Naas Botha 😉
It’s something Naas use to say to him a lot when highlighting the other side of an arguement.
Leon Schuster use to take the p*ss out of him for it.
