Kazunori Yamauchi “Not in a rush” to develop for next gen consoles

In an interview with GT planet, CEO of Polyphony Digital Kazunori Yamauchi stated they aren’t in a rush to release Gran Turismo on PS4, even in light of GT6’s poor sales on the PS3.

When asked if PD was disappointed at not being able to launch Gran Turismo on PS4, Kaz had this to say:

“We are eventually going to do that anyway, and we really don’t think it’s a hindrance or a bad thing to release on the PS3. We say that because the performance of consoles today are sort of reaching their saturation point, where we’re not jumping up in performance as much as we used to with each new generation.

And, the data that we use today for the PS3 is the data that we will take directly into the PS4. We created GT6 with that assumption that things are going to be carried over into the future; we’re not in a rush.”

Considering it took over 6 years for GT to even land on last gen, perhaps this was a good choice to avoid a long wait for fans. As a huge fan of the series myself, I can say that GT6 certainly looks dated among other such rivals like Forza 5, but then again it would’ve been a drag to wait another thousand years for GT6 to come out on next gen. I imagine they released GT6 in an attempt to tide fans over until their next big release on PS4, which may not be that long of a wait.

Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait too long for Polyphony Digital to show their stuff on next gen.

  1. GT will come to the PS4… no one knows when, but it will when they’re good and ready I guess. I just hope they fix the damn game before then.

I like the ideaof microtransactions, between my job, my daughter and family, and my RC hobby i probably wont have time to advance through it to accumulate enough credits for the cars I want, so not ashamed to say, but yes I will buy the 7mil creditss

I assume he means car models and maps. Also Kazunori is notorious for being cryptic in interviews.

Not surprising really, if GT4 to GT5 was any indication, the jump from GT5 to GT6 means they can’t use the legacy code from the Cell Processor, as it’s not compatible with the new architecture, and thus means they’re going to have to start from scratch again.

Plus, PD improves their engines continuously as time progresses, so they’re probably more focused on making GT6 everything it can be, over rushing something to the PS4. As I said when I bought my PS3 FOR GT5, I’ve absolutely no problems with waiting for PD to finish making their games. In fact, I’m glad they’re more interested in perfection than getting a product out as fast as they can.

But how can you say that when it’s clear that they’re happy to release unfinished products, just look at all the old car models and tracks that they bring into the new games, that isn’t a finish product, definitely not perfectionistic. I say this as a fan of the series

After playing GT6 for review I can safely say that he isn’t too worried about making games for current GEN yet either, lol
