Killer Instinct and Gears of War headed to PC

Gears

Yesterday, at the inaugural PC gaming show Microsoft doubled down on its commitment to driving the PC as a gaming platform. They’re putting their money where their mouth is, by putting some of their first party Xbox One games on the platform of champions. That includes the newly announced Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Killer Instinct.

Microsoft’s new Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said that he’s committed to the PC as a gaming platform, and it seems that for once a gaming exec wasn’t just full of hot air.

The Gears of War Ultimate Edition was originally announced as an Xbox One title, and is a 1080p, 60fps full on remaster of the first game in the series – with new CGI movies, incredible textures and all of the multiplayer content from the first Gears of War. It’s coming to PC – with 4K support, unlimited refresh rate, DirectX 12 features and all of the other visual bells and whistles you’d expect of a new PC game.

KI

Microsoft’s former Xbox one exclusive fighting game, Killer Instinct is also getting ported to the PC. While it’s no Street Fighter, it’s a damned solid fighting game that includes a number of things that I wish other fighting games would – most notably, a proper training academy to teach people the basics of fighting games, and not just the mechanics and moves specific to itself. Even better? Like Street Fighter V, it’s getting cross platform compatibility – so Pc gamers will be able to go head to head with the Xbox brethren.

Joining those games are Gigantic and the free-to-play Fable Legends. It’s a small commitment to Pc gaming right now but its shows that Microsoft is taking the PC platform a little more seriously as far as games are concerned – and with Xbox One and Windows 10 being punted as part of the same ecosystem, expect a lot more of this in the future.

He wasn’t full of hot air? Guess he wasn’t running AMD, at an AMD-sponsored show nogal. ;P

Otherwise no interest in a GoW 1 remaster because I’ve already played it & from what I remember of KI from when I last played it at the arcade decades ago, it had a skeleton with a sword & shield.

This new one is really good. Maybe they’ll make it like the X1 version, where you can download the game and give it a bash, and then buy the rest of the characters if you like it.

Will get Gears 1 on PC, but I want all 3. Not just number 1. That would not be ok at all!!

The old classic Killer Instinct was awesome, but Primal Rage will always be cooler 🙂

I disagree(maybe when I’m playing it’s a button masher…????). I’ve watched several tournaments and it’s actually far more complicated with combo’s, combo breakers etc. etc. Mad skills required!

You’re delusional. The new KI is actually really good, but it doesn’t compare to SF in the slightest.
