Kinect Drivers for PC Released

Right now, Kinect is an Xbox only thing. There’s no doubt that some time in the future, Microsoft will open it up for use on other platforms, most notable the PC. It’s the beginning of the shift away from graphical user interfaces (click click!) towards a more natural user interface (I’m afraid I can’t let you do that Dave).

A programmer, one Hector Martin has expedited Kinect PC integration somewhat though, by jiggering up and releasing PC drivers for Microsoft’s fancy motion sensing peripheral.

There’s not much that can be done with them at the moment, truth be told. All the drivers will allow you to do right now is view Kinect’s standard RGB and IR cameras on your PC screen – but once some sort of SDK is available, people will be coming up with all sorts of interesting programs and games that’ll utilise the fancy technology contained within. You can get those drivers here if you want to tinker, or you could just watch the video below that shows you all that can be done with the drivers until some proper applications turn up.
