The perpetually-sunglassed head of Microsoft’s Kinect sometimes says the strangest things. Previously, he compared playing Kinect motion-controlled games to playing Super Mario Bros; which if you have a warped mind is a train of thought that’s at least followable.
The latest effluent to spew from his mouth is just inconceivable, with the scraggly waggleboss saying that thanks to Halo, “hardly anyone plays first-person shooters on the PC anymore.â€
Speaking to GameInformer about the sort of experiences Kinect will offer, Kudo Tsunoda flew off on a Halo-inspired tangent.
“People for the longest time tried to port shooters from the PC onto the console. And people said the same things that they are saying now about Kinect – ‘It’s never going to be responsive enough to do this,’ or ‘You’re never going to get a fun first person shooter on the console’ – it’s only made for a keyboard and mouse and that is the way it is supposed to be played.â€
And then acting like GoldenEye was never released for the N64, he went on to say that “And as long as everyone was just porting the existing shooters over to console, they weren’t as fun as the PC ones. Of course, they were built for the PC.â€
“Halo did an awesome job of building a first-person shooter exclusively for the console, and now hardly anyone plays first person shooters on the PC anymore. It’s all about the console. And I feel it is the same with Kinect stuff. If you are constantly trying to take something that is made for a controller and port it over to Kinect, it’s not going to be a good experience because it is made for a controller.â€
The very healthy Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike(ok, maybe not so healthy) and Left 4 Dead Pc communities would likely disagree. As might those playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare using their favoured mouse and keyboard combo. A quick look at Steam’s stats shows that of the top ten games played, only two of them aren’t first person shooters. this leads me to believe that Kudo Tsunoda really does live in a world of his own; one that’s punctuated by eternal sunlight, and is devoid of razor blades.

Kudo Tsunoda says … HAHAHAHAHHA!! Does anyone even listen to this douchebag anymore? He’s hilarious and pretty much one of the reasons why it’s easy to believe that Microsoft has no clue.

Lol you have to be stupid to hire a guy who says dumb crap like that.
FPS will never die on PC just like MMO will never die on PC.

Ai! Can’t they get a decent exec to head kinect instead of this bag of douche.
On the other hand, the journalists completely missed his point and rather jumped on a sensationalist headline which is sad.
Like he said, trying to port existing experiences to Kinect will not be as good as building new experiences specifically for Kinect which is true. Everything he said (except the fps on PC thing) makes sense.
