Kinect’s Not Spying On you. Honest!

Kinect’s sensors are active as long as the Xbox itself is switched on. Waving at, or speaking to the device act as inputs. The tinfoil-hat brigade are busy wringing their hands wondering if the internet-connected, camera-based system allows “THE MAN” to spy on people at will.

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer says that’s not the case. Of course, the particularly paranoid won’t believe him anyway.

In response to questions about those who’d feel ill at ease allowing such potentially voyeuristic equipment in their homes, Spencer replied:

"Well, do you have the controls to not make it always connected to the Internet? Yes. Is the thing always looking at you? No." "You’ll see when you use it that you actually stand up and wave to activate the camera. Then the camera will see you, and that has nothing to do with the RGB camera. That’s just the infrared picking us up. So it’s pretty specific when it’s looking into the room, if you want to call it that, and when it’s not."

Big Brother is apparently not watching.

So it does spy on you then if it can pick you up

I’d say it does spy on you. Big brother is watching. Wait for all the court shagging on the couch films. All those young girls getting fucked by their small knobbed boyfriends or the baby sitter getting rammed by the father or the 14 year old next door having her shaven pussy split open by her 20 something neighbour or the MILF getting sprayed with man custard by the paperboy or 2 boys or 2 girls going at in some fucked up homo sex act.
    I can’t wait.

I feel sorry for the poor NIA/CIA/Mossad/etc. operative who has to go through all the footage. Almost every single video will feature an overweight to obese male, sweating in his underwear while waving to his TV. It would be like chatroulette but without the constant stroked sausage.

LOL! LOL! Supposedly there are those who believe that the CIA can access your webcam without your knowledge, so it’s probably a good idea to cover the cam with something if you’re planning on strangling your captain. 😉

Actually, this is easy enough to do with voice recognition software. On a big scale of course. So set it up to look for key phrases such as “Obama” “Kill” etc. Then only review those where the words come up often enough. It’s actually pretty feasible technically. Look out for the Chinese government’s version of this coming out shortly.

P.S. Of course, somehow the main phrase searched for will mysteriously be “yes, yes, yes, oh god yes”

Something tells me Usama bin Laden WOULD be playing kinectimals in his cave in Afghanistan.

Usama: “Look Achmed, if you scratch it’s head with your fingers, the tiger purrs”.
Achmed: “But Usama, PS Move is better, have you seen the Eye Pet?”
Usama stares at Achmed for a few seconds, lifts up his AK47 and shoots him.

    True story!

I can see the news headline now.

    NAZI DECAGENARIAN ASSASSINATED USING XBOX

Gunther Miller 104, was recently assassinated by MOSSAD, on suspicion of being a Nazi officer. Gunther’s grandson Jimmy Miller 23 told News24, that he had recently bought his grandfather a Kinect for Christmas. Mossad spokesperson, Albert Goldstein told the press that the facial recognition software positively identified Miller as a ruthless Nazi officer, responsible for the deaths of countless of innocents. Goldstein denied that the recent predator missile strikes in Gaza were because of homing beacons planted in Kinect units.

I recently updated to the new xbox 360 software today, Nov. 1. While I normally accept the terms and conditions blindly just to get to my games and start PWNing fools. Today I had an empty house and some time to kill so i decided to read the new contract. Most of it was pretty standard shit… piracy this… security that… don’t hack this… but there were a few interesting sections that scared the shit outta me. Sections 9 and 12 of the new terms and conditions contract basically state that Microsoft can/will use the new Kinect to record and obtain personal information including but not limited to voice/camera and game play sessions and share them with any third party they please. It also goes on to say that if you commit a crime and it is recorded in any way on the device they can share this information with local or fed law enforcement agencies and you can and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. They will upload/download and share information at will and actually record your Kinect gameplay sessions monitor them “for quality assurance.” It goes on to say this made possible by tracking and monitoring devices embedded in the system and its illegal to bypass or modify these systems.

“By accepting this contract you waive your rights to privacy when using this service” WTF?!
