Kitana and Reptile’s variations get detailed in Mortal Kombat X

MK-Kitana

Mortal Kombat X is a game where new characters are being introduced in order to grow the new alternate timeline that was created in the previous game. But that doesn’t mean that we won’t see a few old favourites return. Favourites like Princess Kitana (Who is looking damn good for someone who is over 10 000 years old) and Reptile, the greenest of ninjas. They’ll be popping up in the next Mortal Kombat tournament, laying the smacketh down with the following moves, special attacks and fatalities that can only be described properly by News24.

Kitana returns with the Assassin, Royal Storm and Mournful attack variations. Assassin allows Kitana an offensive moveset and rushdown techniques, dealing additional damage through specific moves with attack buffs. Royal Storm gives Kitana skills related to setting up control zones in the air, augmenting her royal fan to lift opponents further and can also be meter-burned for a full-screen distance attack. Kitana can also reflect attacks, as well as multiple projectiles. Mournful is a tribute to her childhood friend Jade, who won’t be seen in the sequel. With Mournful, Kitana can use Jade’s spear and glaive to control stage space with more variety.

Beyond that, Kitana will retain her trademark fan toss, fan lift and rising uppercut attack. As for Reptile, his three variations will be Deceptive, Nocious and Nimble. Deceptive focuses on his cloaking ability, Nimble gives him a speed boost and attacks that slow his opponent, while Noxious allows Reptile to surround his body with poison gas that damages an opponent that gets close. Reptile will also have a familiar moveset that includes his signature force balls, which can now be slowed or sped up, acid spit and slide attacks. Scaly bastard.

GamesHQMedia captured the relevant parts of the stream in the videos below. They’re pretty cool to see some old favourites kicking ass:

NetherRealm also released some new concept art of the pair. Since it’s Friday, you can have a gander at that then:

Mortal Kombat X is out in April. My disproportionate sense of overconfidence says that I’ll kick Geoff’s ass in the game.
