The Tomb Raider franchise has seen one hell of a turn around following the origins story of 2013. It was a fantastic game, one that brought Lara Croft straight back to the gaming limelight. Crystal Dynamics are hard at work on the sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and they’ve already given us the more platform, co-op focused Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. Turns out they’ve been working on a mobile game too.
It’s called Lara Croft: Relic Run. It will be free-to-play, and it will be arriving on both iOS and Android. It features the more “classic” Lara, not the one we’ve grown used thanks to the origin tale.
As the name implies, it’s a runner title that will probably see you swiping in different directions to survive obstacles or oncoming danger. Here’s the official blurb from the Tomb Raider Tumblr Page (via Destructoid)
Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have been working with the talented team at Simutronics,? who are developing the all-new Lara Croft: Relic Run. Many of you have correctly mused that Relic Run is an adventure runner, and at its core it is, but we feel that it’s much more than that. Relic Run offers a massive amount of diversity in play, allowing for seamless transitions between acrobatic-inspired running, combat, vehicles, and epic boss fights, including but not limited to the return of the infamous T-Rex.
Like the other games in the Lara Croft brand, Relic Run will scratch your itch for nostalgic play – big adventure, over-the-top action, and loads of collectibles coupled with fast-paced play.
If you’re located in The Netherlands, you can download the game right now. The rest of us will probably getting it over the next few weeks.
I do find it hard to get excited about a mobile game. That being said, I’ve given far too much of my spare time to silly runner games like Temple Run, so I will be checking out Relic Run when it launches. Maybe that will keep me busy till Rise of the Tomb Raider comes to PC… in a few years time.
