LEGO: Hobbit adding last film by DLC?

Though I still enjoy them, I’m starting to think of Traveller’s Tale’s LEGO games as a bit of a cash in. We’ve just had the LEGO movie tie in, and soon, we’ll be getting LEGO The Hobbit. The hobbit itself strikes me as a cash in on The Lords of the rings immense filmic popularity. Stretching such a short book out in to three movies? Ludicrous.

The thing with the game coming out now is that it doesn’t include the last bits of the film trilogy, based on There and Back Again. The game, headed our way this month, is based on An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug.

Don’t worry, Hobbit fans, LEGO aficionados and people who like being taken advantage of! The last chapter of the film will apparently be hitting the game by way of DLC. That’s the word of Gameinformer, who picked it up from reports coming out of a dedicated LEGO site Brick Fanatics.

Lego: The Hobbit will be out on April 18 in SA for Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, and PC…pretty much everything that plays games. The LEGO franchise has quickly become one of Warner Bros. Interactive entertainment’s key pillars.

“LEGO is currently the second biggest game franchise in 2014 year-to-date, in terms of units sold, with 420,200 units [on February 7],” Warner’s Spencer Crossley said last month. “LEGO is the second biggest toy company and the ninth biggest video games franchise in the world, so there is good room for more growth in our sector.”

According to Warner Bros. SVP for international games Olivier Wolff, the company has seen no fatigue for the LEGO games at all, despite them all being rather similar in structure and scope, save for the excellent LEGO City Undercover for the Wii U.

“The reality is that there’s absolutely no fatigue at all and there is actually a demand for different experiences,” Wolff said.

I have to disagree; after having just  gone through The Lego Movie videogame, I’m not sure I’m ready to play more LEGO games for quite some time. What do you think? Too many LEGO games leading to saturation, or does the humour and levity of it all give it a free pass?

If the DLC rumour is true, it means it might be better to just wait for a complete version of the game when the last movie is released.

Lego Lord of the Rings is awesome… I’m still not sure about the voice overs… it kinda kills some of the comedic events in the games. I’m however a huge fan of the Lego games, missing a few from my collection, but have most of the ones I want.

This goes onto the wishlist for when it goes on special later in its life, with the DLC included.

I should really stop reading FlipBoard in traffic, then at least I’d get the news first from my favourite site, written by my favourite writers

        Might be the word.
        Let me try, “framed”.
No coughing so it seems unlikely.

Does fracked mean the same as f*cked?
        If so then it’s possible.

I have not played a LEGO game yet, nor watched the movie, but have quite the LEGO collection, so I feel like I owe it to them to at least give it a try. Will start with Star Wars LEGO game though.
