Lindsay Lohan started out as a child star who quickly became a cautionary tale of how not to be famous. However, she has now released an app similar to Kim Kardashian’s, but it sounds even crazier, and more self-aware.
Lindsay Lohan’s The Price of Fame is available for free on iOS and Android. The description of the game sounds like it will be strangely similar to Kardashian’s, at least at first:
Lindsay Lohan brings you a game where you become famous… but there’s a LOT OF DRAMA along the way. […] Start a phony rap beef, buy a private peninsula, get butt implants, fight in an elevator, and give your baby botox. It’s all part of getting famous in Hollywood. And why not punch a paparazzi while you are at it? Don’t worry, you have a hot shot team of lawyers to get you out of trouble. And they probably deserved it.
However, according to Polygon, the game is much more self-aware than the reality star’s version – players can boost their fame by releasing a sex tape, going for rehab or even faking their own death. There are designer cults to join, and of course tons of free-to-play annoyances. Yet it was the booster in the store that asked a player to read this article that shows just how self-aware it is. The article evaluates fame and happiness:
And then there’s social media. Today, each of us can build a personal little fan base, thanks to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and the like. We can broadcast the details of our lives to friends and strangers in an astonishingly efficient way. That’s good for staying in touch with friends, but it also puts a minor form of fame-seeking within each person’s reach. And several studies show that it can make us unhappy.
I really hope her game is successful. I doubt it will be – people will probably only play it for the laughs and she doesn’t have the same celebrity pull that the Kardashians do anymore. I just like that she’s showing that celebrity isn’t all glamorous and beautiful – it’s seedy and gross and the path to fame isn’t paved with photoshoots and club appearances. Well done LiLo, here’s hoping that this helps you make a comeback.
