Looks like a Gears of War remaster is indeed coming to Xbox One

Gears

Just over a month ago, we surmised (based on conjecture, rumour and hearsay) that Gears of War was being remastered and re-released for the Xbox One – likely as a collection of the first three games (forgetting, rightfully, that Gears of War: Judgment even exists). Gears of War boss Rod Fergusson shot those rumours down shortly after they started circulating. It looks like he may have to dowse his conflagrant pants.

The rumours fly anew, only this time they’re supported by first-hand accounts of screenshots. And multiple sources who claim to be playing the test build. Said test build features the multiplayer bits from the first Gears of War, remastered with new lighting, rejiggered textures and smooth, 60fps gameplay. According to those who’ve played the build, it featured the following modes: Team Deathmatch; King of the Hill; 1 Life 1V1 Shotgun TDM; 1v1 Sudden Death Gnashers Only; 4v4 TDM Single Round; and 4v4 KOTH Single Round.

Further to that, Polygon reports that it’s seen still images snipped from the game’s remastered opening sequence, which, allowing with the game’s cut-scenes are being reworked by animation studio Plastic Wax. Polygon’s report also suggests that work on the port has been farmed out to UK-based studio Splash Damage – responsible for Brink , Splash Damage, and the console ports of Batman: Arkham Origins. They’re also the people behind Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Quake Wars.

There’s no word on whether it’s just Gears of War one getting the remaster treatment, but I think it’s unlikely to be the case. Presumably it’ll be the whole collection, released much like Master Chief’s Halo collection.

And I’d be all for that, especially to play the first game’s multiplayer all over again…though I think much of its original charm lay in just how buggy it was. Hopefully, if it happens, they’ll bring the series over to PC this time. They tried before, but a sub-standard port hampered by Games for Windows Live did nothing to ingratiate PC gamers.

Hopefully, above all else, the MP is functional, unlike another collection on Xbone…

Yeah, but its not as if the MP is the big selling point on these games or anything.

I would absolutely love to own all 3 Gears games on my PC…. What do you mean there was a 4th game in the series? Come on you are joking right?

Judgement played like a MP game. If you are into mindless and senseless action and the best graphics on Xbox 360 then it’s an 8/10 else it’s a bore-fest.

Yeah I tried the campaign because I bought a remote that had it bundled. I stopped after an hour. Gears of War = Marcus Phoenix

It was a sub-standard port? But I liked it & it worked just fine. O_o

I’m all outraged in hindsight now.

It really wasn’t a good port. I played it on PC after the 360 – and it was /crap/. Yes, i only got it for the Brumak fight.

Maybe I don’t know what I was missing then, because I’ve never even seen the console version. But the controls worked fine, it looked decent & never crashed – good port to me.

Playing the first game on PC with that wonderful GFWL was the nail in the coffin for me, to this day, that was the worst idea for a DRM anyone had ever had, and I hope that whoever thought of it, to this day, has a pain in his left testicle bone…

I got like 130 on XB1, I want a PS4 for exclusives only, the third parties have a better online experience on XB1 I feel. I could care less about console sales but many dont realize that XB has 3 operating systems and that when windows 10 launches it’ll open more of the platform. mS does good with software

People always say that Gears on PC was a bad port, and when I originally played it on PC I would have probably agreed with that. But years later I played it on 360 and honestly it’s the same shite… the problem was not that it was a poor port, it’s just a game that controls in a janky sort of way on any platform.

This is a crappy trend. How many re-mastered games are there now ? Kinda feels like a step backwards.

I think in terms of working AAA games it might be a good race as to how many Remasters there are.

Where on earth do they think we get the money from ? I bought one game this month and I am already regretting it from a financial standpoint, and it was the Borderlands remaster. At the time of purchase it seemed like a good buy when you consider the prequel and dlc packs but after trying the prequel I was bummed, Those Aussie accents suck and their attempt at humour is lacking and makes the game suck from a narrative point of view.

That sucks! Trade it in on something else next month. I have 4 games to trade in, just can’t find anything to trade it in on…

well not to be a complete dick, but how old are you? If your unsure of a remaster then why buy it? Yes you mentioned all the doc and two games included but it seems before you bought it you would regret it, then you said it hurt you financially. If just $60 bucks hurts your wallet then I would recommend not buying a game for a while.

Yeah, Try not to be a dick. I prefer to use discretion when I buy games and Borderlands 2 has been a favorite. When you have financial obligations that are a major monthly expense, gaming has to take a back seat. When your economy is crap and the price of gaming goes beyond a certain point, one naturally thinks twice about spending the unreasonable amount of money on re-masters. I thought the inclusion of the pre-sequel would justify the cost but I was wrong. BT games don’t take returns on a game if the consumer thinks it’s crap.

The only way I think PC folk will get this is , if the Xbox one streams it to a PC, I doubt we will see a PC port.

So can anyone tell me why it’s a good idea to get a current gen console? I’ve played 90% of the games that have been released on them. Sure they are prettier but I’ve still played them already, probably can count the original IPs on one hand.

To be honest why should gears go to pc it should remain console exclusive pc gets many many games that consoles don’t and right now xbox one needs gears of war as there isn’t much else on the console apart from boring cod

Because the first gears was released on PC. As for Xbox not having exclusives, whose fault is that? lastly a remaster hardly makes sense when Microsoft should be trying to find new content for their console to be relevant.
