It looks like Metal Gear Solid V is getting a “Definitive Edition”

MGSv1

Metal Gear Solid V is still, as far as I’m concerned, an unfinished game. I thoroughly enjoyed the first chapter of Kojima’s Metal Gear Swansong – but that second chapter was a farce, and the third chapter doesn’t, and likely will never exist.

That hasn’t stifled the hope of uber fans who really, really believe there’s a third chapter of the game waiting to be unlocked. It’s a hope that’s been reignited by the sudden appearance of a  Metal Gear Solid 5 Definitive Edition, which popped up on both Amazon Japan and German retailer NetGames (via Eurogamer).

It’s pegged – probably as placeholder – for release in October. There’s no word on what it contains, but I think it’s safe to assume it’ll contain the game, the Ground Zeroes prequel, Metal Gear Online and all of the game and its multiplayer component’s DLC. Also expect the same sense of disappointment as the credits roll and you have no sense of closure whatsoever.

That said, Konami’s transgressions aside, it’s still an amazing game and worth playing, provided you can stomach it not really ending.

Here’s what we said in our review:

“The Phantom Pain is an unusual Metal Gear experience, one that not everybody may enjoy if they cling to systems of old. If they’re willing to adapt and accept this new way of exploring Kojima’s world however, they are going to be blown away, absolutely, and one hundred percent guaranteed. This new open world is one that is begging to be played with, in whatever way a player wishes.”

Of course, that was really before knowing that it was unfinished. Never be game over indeed.

I thought I was seeing things when I saw the first missions of chapter 2. It’s like Dragon Age One Cave.

I’ve never played this. 4 ended things nicely for me. So I will just stick to that ending.

I bought MGS5 on the last steam sale mainly because I enjoyed 1 – 4 and loved ground zeros. Only to end up not really enjoying MGSV that much.

The intro to that game is one of the worst experiences of my gaming life, actually ended up getting so angry after that chapter one I stopped playing for two days hated it so much.

Admittedly the gameplay when you actually get to it is super fun, but that’s it. The story in MGS5 is a fucking train wreck to put it mildly lol. Couldn’t bring myself to keep playing the game after awhile, so will probably be skipping this edition of it =p.

Jesus christ, gimme a break. All this bemoaning of Konami as the bad guy and the game being ‘unfinished’ is getting a little fucking tired imo. Like if you had someone ass farting about on game development for one title in 7 years, like Kojima did, wasting company money in “trying to get it right”, of course you’d sack them for it. Fuck me, what else do you expect?

Besides, the game’s a prequel. It’s not meant to be finished but a continuation to Metal Gear. If you didn’t get the ending and read into the story layers and piece the clues along the way then you really are pretty fucking dumb. That’s the way Kojima works
