LucasArts unveils substantial electronic back catalogue

There is quite a serious debate in certain circles about whether or not re-releasing back catalogue titles is purely a quick money scheme or if the companies are offering die hard fans a nice easy way to play these old retro titles.

I sit in the formers camp where I generally see companies wrapping old titles (that should now be free) in shiny new plastic and then charging for them as a little bit of corporate greed.

However that being said we don’t need to buy them if we don’t want them and it doesn’t look like these old remakes are taking anything away from upcoming new titles so I guess they do no harm.

If you are one of the many people who love older games then this news is great for you. LucasArts are starting off by offering 10 title over steam as of Wednesday with many more promised to hit the delivery system in the near future.

The titles we can expect to see on Wednesday are

  • Armed and Dangerousâ„¢
  • Indiana Jones® and the Fate of Atlantis
  • Indiana Jones® and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure
  • LEGO® Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure
  • LOOMâ„¢
  • Star Wars Battlefront® II
  • Star Wars Republic Commando®
  • Star Wars Starfighterâ„¢
  • The Dig®
  • Thrillville®: Off the Railsâ„¢

Yip, it needs Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle (my fav.) and Grim Fandago. Still, it is a step forward to play the classics.

Does anyone know if they will change the quality of the graphics? (like The Secret of Monkey Island being released on the 15th on XBLA)
