Magic: The Gathering finally allows custom decks

I used to play quite a bit of Magic: The Gathering in my youth. It was always social, never at any sort of competitive level –  though I stopped playing around bout the time I discovered how much fun boobs (and yes, the people they were attached to) could be. I’ve thus enjoyed the digital version of the game immensely; where it’s found a home on my tablet. It’s always had one rather big negative though; the lack of a genuinely customisable deck. That’s changed with Magic 2015.

the latest version of the digital game now allows users to create their own decks. It’s out now on PC via Steam, Xbox 360, Amazon Kindle and Android on Google Play and iOS. Notice something? It’s not coming out for any PlayStation platforms… odd.

Magic 2015 revolves around the cursed Garruk Wildspeaker, who is now hunting other Planeswalkers. Check out this trailer.

It’s now becoming a lot more like the actual paper game, which is neat – but it does come with quite a caveat. As you’ll now be able to buy boosters to fortify your digital decks, expect it to become a bit of a micro-transactional hell.

I also feel that Wizards of the Coast has really failed to capitalise on its property in the digital realm . Magic Online sucks, and they’re releasing Duals of the Planeswalkers as an annual iterative experience. Hearthstone has, to mind, taken over the digital trading card game sphere – with a more mainstream approach, regular tournaments and a community that’s grown at a frightening rate.

In truth, they’re probably not making the digital game as expansive as the real-world one in order to protect their paper game business; they want that to continue to be their big earner, and use Duals of the Planeswalkers as a bit of extra money. I can’t help but feel that if they’d done it differently, they could have raked in worlds of cash enough to eclipse their real world cards business already.

Could never get into this. I’m probably too dumb for this game. But the art style never appealed to me. Yugioh was much easier to get into so naturally my dumb self was more attracted to that, plus Kuriboh is cute as hell

Yes Geoff’s view of the world, and boobs, probably was at the time. But with age comes less resolution and poorer frames per second!

Cant get into Hearthstone, Not enough freedom with deck creation and game mechanics that make no sense.

I find it pretty straight forward which I actually like. I don’t have enough time to go through all cards and plan on how I am going to play, I have a rough plan and if that fails I just start throwing out a lot of “Well played’s”!!! Or hope I get Ysera or Molten Giant quickly!!

Same. I enjoy a few games at night when I manage to get it away from my wife who is now addicted. Which legendaries did you get? I managed to get Leeroy Jenkins and Hogger.

Nice. I managed to get my 2 from a pack and I’m still saving for crafting one. I only disenchant using the mass disenchant. Dunno why but I keep all my golden and normal cards even if I don’t use them. So sometimes I got 4 of the same item (2 golden and 2 normal). Guess its my OCD of collecting everything

I think Wizards dare using the Digital game as more of a demo for the hardcopy TCG.it lets you experience some of the new rules/ cards etc, before you jump into the real TCG, which can be quite a financial commitment.

I used to enjoy it (the card games, never played on computer) but then they started releasing new packs every few months and things got stupid.

Geoff was never into cards as he always like what he saw on the internet, and liked his 60 FPS (faps per second)…

    Eh Honestly Hearthstone.

I used to be a big magic player, used to play in league etc… Eventually stopped playing round the middle of the mirrodin block and yea just have no love left for that game anymore. Hearthstone is kind of like magic light and it’s quicker and a hell of a lot more fun in a digital way anyway.
