Six months down, six more to go. July officially kicks off the second half of the year, because…basic maths? Hey look I can state the obvious! Anyway, a new month means new games and while July in the past has been a month that is somewhat more barren than right swipes on my Tinder profile, the scene is changing somewhat.
For starters, the Destiny 2 open beta arrives on July 21 ( and a few days early for anyone who pre-ordered the game), while zombie survival simulator Fortnite finally works its way out of vapourware status and into Early Access on Steam on July 25. There’s also some new hardware on the horizon in the form of Nintendo’s 2DS X console, most likely the final iteration of the humble 3DS for quite some time.
The biggest game of the month though is easily Splatoon 2. Nintendo has been managing to release absolute gems every month since the Switch launched, and taking a sequel to one of the best arena shooters ever made and making it mobile sounds like a license to print money. Seriously, if I hadn’t blown all my cash on TimTams again.
