Major leaps in PS3 visuals for at least four more years

Brian Hastings from Insomniac games has been speaking to videogamer.com about the true potential of the PS3 and according to him at least things are looking great.

He is probably the person I would trust most in this regard as well being from the company that created Resistance and Ratchet & Clank for the PS3.

According to Hastings

The amount of action we’re able to put on the screen at 60 frames per second really dwarfs what we were able to do a year ago at 30 frames per second,” said Hastings. “What’s most exciting is the way things are headed right now I think we’ll see just as big a leap from our second generation engine to our third as we did from the first to second.”

So we should be expecting big things from Insomniac in the coming years, what I found most interesting though was their (basic) explanation of how they are really using the Cell for this power

Collision and physics are entirely running on SPUs now, which allows us to put much more on the screen at once than we were able to with Resistance. Moving more and more code to the SPUs is an ongoing process and I think we’ll continue to see major benefits from this for several more years

They seem to be the first company to truly tap into the power of the PS3’s and since no bad news about Ratchet & Clank has surfaced we can only assume this new way of coding is a good idea.

Yeah Sony PS3 finally wins the war, Next Gen consoles Xbox 720 and Wii 2 lagging behind because of cost.

LOL. in 4 years this monster is predicted to have the xbox badge:

    CPU/GPU – Integrated chip with 16 x 5GHz processor cores, 32 x 2GHz graphics cores
    Memory – 8GB GDDR8
Media – Dual-format HD-DVD/Blu-ray drive for backwards compatibility and movies
Storage – 4TB hard disk for online game (and movie) delivery

So ja. Nice for them, but 4 years is a eternity in computing.

Heh heh. The irony is that the mass market doesn’t really care. They just want the next singstar, just like the old one.
