Massively Multiplayer Online Buffy?

Its not the first time Buffy has appeared on a game and now Multiverse have announced plans to release an MMO based on the television series.

The idea is to continue the story from where the television series finished off, where the player “will feel like they’re an important character in the ongoing story.”

The announcement was made at the VirtualWorlds conference by movie producer Jon Landau. “The resources are in place to develop a great MMOG,” he said. Promising comments considering he’s an avid online poker player.

The game will apparently launch from a new social networking environment, ‘Multiserve places’. Multiserve then went on to state that the Buffy MMO will be playable “either as a fully immersive 3D environment or as a Flash-based 2D game, where both types of players can interact”.

I have thought long and hard about this and I still cannot figure our how exactly that is going to work, but it sounds like its going to be one very bizarre looking game.

The game is set to go into beta testing “later this year” and I’m really looking forward to seeing how this player interaction turns out.

I like the Buffy series as much as the next guy…ok maybe a bit more than the next guy, but I think that this is a terrible idea.
There are other shows that would fit the MMO game style far better like Dallas or Pumpkin Patch.
