I love LittleBigPlanet. Media Molecule’s play.create.share series of games, besides being awesome platformers in their own right, stirred the creative muscle of hundreds of thousands of gamers, spawning millions of user-created levels.
Well the studio is now taking a break form the series, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing!
According to Edge, the developer is “stepping away†from the delightfully quirky platformer in order to focus on "new ideas." Don’t be disheartened, LBP fans – there’s a new game in the series coming for Sony’s new handheld, the PlayStation Vita, but it’s being made by Double-eleven studios. It doesn’t quite mean it’s the end of the road for Media molecule and Sackboy though.
"Loyal sackfolk," the studio said via Twitter, "please be reassured that we will always be involved with LBP, at least a bit, and there’s lots more fun yet to come!"
I’m actually quite glad, and think the studio’s making the right move, stepping away before LBP becomes oversaturated. I’m also keen to see what else they’re capable of…especially if they can rope Stephen Fry in for more voice work.
