Meet Call of Duty: WWII’s squad

WW2

I’m becoming increasingly excited for this year’s Call of Duty. Taking the series back to World War II, it has an emphasis once again on engaging story telling. While we’ve seen and played games set in the European Theater before, we’ve never quite seen anything quite like this. The last story trailer hit hard, showing that Sledgehammer isn’t out to glorify the war, and they’re also not going to shy away from tackling sensitive issues like the holocaust. The last thing the world needs is another war game that’s steeped in wayward jingoism.

Instead, it seems to draw inspiration from compelling and emotive sources, like Band of Brothers. In the game’s single player, you’ll be a part of a squad, relying on just such a family during the war.

Red Daniels

From rural farm life to hardened soldier, be prepared to sacrifice everything as Private Ronald “Red” Daniels in Call of Duty: WWII.

Turner

His years of military experience and compassionate leadership will help keep his men alive. Meet Lieutenant Joseph Turner, your commanding officer in the Call of Duty: WWII Campaign.

Zussman

You can always count on him when things get grim. Meet Private Robert Zussman, Red’s best friend in the squad.

Pierson

He’s strict and does everything by the book. Stay on Sergeant Pierson’s good side, or you’ll be sorry.

It all looks nice, but I’m a little disappointed that the game still focuses on the Americans in the war. Famously, the Americans fence-sat for the first two years of the conflict, not wanting to get involved in another great war , especially given that they’d just come out of the Great Depression.

Call of Duty: WWII is out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 3.
