For some or other reason, Capcom seems to been intent on making everybody’s favourite little blue robot a distant memory. It’s gone and cancelled just about every official Mega Man that’s been announced. It’s one of the likely reasons that series creator Keiji Inafune left the company. He’s back with his own studio, Comcept – and is now looking for crowdfunding for a game that looks and sounds a heck of a lot like…Mega Man.
Mighty No. 9 is an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game, says the Kickstarter page, that will have you playing as a robot that will “Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!”
It’s being developed by a team of veteran Mega Man developers along with some fresh talent, including the level designer of the original game as well as Manami Matsumae, who composed the music for the original game – and hey want you to help them. Mostly by throwing money at them.
I’ve always been wary of kickstarter and other crowdfunding efforts, but I’ve never been so compelled to throw money at my screen – and it seems that I’m not the only one; in just 2 days, the project has already raised $782,873 of its intended $900 000 goal – and with a month left to go, it looks like The Mighty 9 is something we’ll definitely be seeing on Steam in 2015. Stretch goals include extra levels, a making-of documentary and, should they hit $2.5 million, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U versions of the game.
Take THAT, Capcom!
Here’s some concept art for your perusal.

I wonder if Capcom are gonna sue the pants off them. The game looks and sounds exactly like a Megaman title which is awesome but Capcom may have a very legit case on their hands when this game hits.

I don’t think Capcom can do anything, it has nothing to do with Megaman at all. Nintendo could have then Sued Atlus for releasing 3D dot heroes which is essentially Zelda with blocks

All I’m saying is the concept art and 6 Boss levels played in any order etc is more than just remincient of Megaman, it looks and sounds like Megaman.

That game looks and sounds like something else, even has the backing of the original creator, but they have not been sued yet.

Can I mail them a debit order form so that they can garnish me every month?

Want! Love the Blue Robot. No clue why CAPCOM wouldn’t want to develop a new game, probably not enough boobies in it to make money in Japan…

Because F*** Capcom that is why. They have no clue what they are doing. giving Lost planet to Legendary developer..seriously????making Breath of Fire 6 into a social tablet game…..they lure Blue Bomber fans with Legends three then they are like F**K YOU. No more legends!!!

Which is more likely:
That every robot except Beck is infected with a virus or that Beck is the only robot infected and the virus makes him think the other robots are infected?

Mega Man and Metroid are the best side scrollers out there. They shouldnt have jumped into 3d realm with these franchises. Something about the 2d caught me. Was really great then.

My favorite Metroid was Metroid Fusion on gameboy advance… damn that game was good. If you play it you have this sense of isolation to it. Like an unknown isolation from everything and this game was freaking 2d. Im not sure if anyone else would agree with me who played the game. Some games can still create a great atmosphere in 2d.

Mine was Zero Mission…man I love that game. But you are clearly some that appreciates the beauty of 2D. You should play Lone Survivor, if you want atmosphere, that game is utterly breath taking for a 2D game
