Metal Gear Solid V bigger than Skyrim?

Metal Gear Solid V is the first game in the long running espionage series to introduce a truly open-world to explore. It opens up more tactical options for players to explore that previous games could only dream of, but Hideo Kojima has been coy about just how big The Phantom Pain really is. That hasn’t stopped Ocelot himself from describing it as the biggest game he’s ever seen.

Ocelot voice actor and jack of all character names, Troy Baker, has described just how big the sequel is during an interview on Kinda Funny Games. When big games worlds are discussed, Skyrim is immediately brought in as a unit of measure. But Baker says it’s nothing compared to The Phantom Pain.

It may be the biggest game I’ve ever seen. Just in terms of everything that you can do. Skyrim looks like an afternoon playpen next to it. It’s massive. It’s absolutely massive in what you can do.

He goes on to express how well the game fits in with the rest of the franchise, which bridges a gap between the two different ears of two different Snakes.

I’m anxious to see how people will look at this new Metal Gear, because it’s really different man. It fits perfectly within the rest of the franchise, and in same ways I think it’s…. It’s gonna be really good, but I’m really curious to see what people think.

It was previously revealed that The Phantom Pain, as big as it is, will soft lock you into an area during missions so that you don’t wander too far off course. The world is completely open outside of missions though, and considering we’ve only really seen two areas I excited to see where Snake is able to globe trot to.

Now all we really need is a release date. Trust Hideo Kojima to keep us waiting as long as possible though.

  1. The Witcher 3 map is 3.5 times bigger than Skyrim. Is Troy Baker in The Witcher 3. No.

Don’t Support DRM. The Witcher 3 is coming.

No. It’s not how it works. Steam was build upon Half Life 2. Half Life 3 could cause a rebellion. Will never live up to the hype. Valve will never release Half Life 3. Steam is too important to them.

        Don’t Support DRM.

And that’s how I feel about The Witcher 3. Will it live up to the hype? Probably not.

Will if people take the hype and turn into anything other than a simple RPG with a good story and different outcomes to decisions made in the game. Well then probably not.

But The Witcher 3 should be a decent game that people should support because of NO DRM.

Seriously though. Didn’t enjoy 2 so I’m a little skeptical about all the hype for 3

What didn’t you like about 2? I thought the story and dialog was ok. The combat sword and magic was ok. And the game looked pretty.

I do fear that Witcher 3 going open world might affect the story telling and story pace of the game. But I’ll see how it is when the game gets released.

The game was pretty but the combat system just felt… awkward and lacking. It’s tough to describe

            January 14, 2015 at 14:07

At 1st I was dieing a lot even on easy. Which meant I had to take the time to learn the damn combat, what works and what doesn’t. And that learning what works and doesn’t work in games is what I like.

The combat is different in The Witcher 3. Looks fun but won’t know till I play it to see if it’s dumbed down or still a challenge

But for The Witcher 3 I just want the damn story and dialog. Then bring on Cyberpunk 2077 already.

I’m not so sure. Almost everything these days is over hyped – and the games that deserve the hype slip under the radar. (Child of Light, Transistor, and its ilk).

Dragon Age lived up to the hype even some of the haters were considering getting it even if it means they had to go Origin.

I do not see Witcher 3 wont be able to live to the hype. W 2 was a huge improvement to W 1. Why cannot 3 be better than 2. If Skyrim could get 10/10 with a lack luster story and shit combat and loads of bugs then Witcher 3 will def be awesome. The gameplay videos that I have seen are really good.

The dragon age videos were good and it convinced me to get it and I am already super excited about Witcher 3 based on the vids.

CD Project does not have a greedy distributor company that controls them. Delaying the game already proven that they care.

On a more pertinent and far less troll-tastic note: what are you going to say after The Witcher 3 is released? I’m not talking day 1, because “The Witcher 3 is here.”, I’m talking like a month after – when people have moved on to the next big thing.

What makes you think there will be a mandatory day 1 patch. There are Youtube people in Poland playing the game. I think they got like 3 hours to play. And they want more.

PS4 version. And CD Projekt RED have different goals than Ubisoft. Hence the delay. They want to release a game that doesn’t need a enhanced edition.

There are day 1 patches on all platforms these days.

            January 14, 2015 at 12:29

PC had 2 because of the damned DRM trying to block the pirateers which I may add failed epically due to them being able to pirate the damned updates.

          • Ryanza

            January 14, 2015 at 12:30

When last did a Ubisoft game not need a day 1 patch. Makes me wonder if the day 1 patch is used to get people used to DRM for consoles and to make PC users feels like the DRM is working.

          • Ryanza

            January 14, 2015 at 12:36

And just to add. Ubisoft should never be used as an example for anything.

Before The Witcher 3 there was Don’t Support DRM. After The Witcher 3 there will still be Don’t Support DRM. Just because I added The Witcher 3 to Don’t Support DRM doesn’t mean it is exempt. If the game is shit, I will say the game is shit. But I have a feeling it won’t be shit.

Witcher 3 needs as much awareness as possible to insure high sale numbers.

And I do know me on Lazygamer comments section means nothing. But still. It’s fun. To me at least.

Ok the game is big and all that but what would be really awesome is if there’s bases dynamically spawned in with random patrols on roads and in the air. Basically NOTHING NPC wise should be static at all.

Metal Gear should be exactly the opposite of Far Cry for me. The bases and people within the bases are static and after one play you learn the pattern too easily.
