Gizmo rules

It’s strange really I was posting on a local forum earlier today about the difference between PSN and Xbox Live.

The most common complaint about Live is that Microsoft charge for the service when Sony offer the same thing for free. Well this is yet another example of you getting what you pay for.

Metal Gear Online is about to be launched and Konami has managed to get it so badly wrong it is quite suprising.

So you want to play MGO, well easy enough then. You put the disc in and it will then check if you have a Konami ID  (a what?) if you don’t it will automatically boot up the browser and take you over to http://id.konami.net to sign up for a Konami ID…

So now you have your PSN integrated ID and a Konami integrated ID, great lets play…

Well it’s not that easy you see, before you can start playing you also need to sign up for a MGO Game ID…. Because your PSN integrated ID and Konami integrated ID don’t seem to mean jack…

So if you want to play MGO you are now forced to have 3 usernames and passwords before getting into the game in the first place. It has to be said that Microsoft would never stand for that and that is yet another reason why Xbox Live is better than PSN.

Konami: The Metal Gear Online ID Clusterfuck

PS: As to why there is a picture of Gizmo… Well I searched for Xbox Live vs PSN and he popped up and I love Gizmo… so yeah, no reason but he’s cool…

That’s a bit of a pain. I can’t see them keeping this setup – it seems a bit redundant and will surely cause an a bit of an outcry.

LOL , I’m really looking forward to playing MGO(for free).
I’m thinking of selling the Xbox and seven games, so I can install a faster line.
What do you think????? Not worth it because of the extra user names and passwords?

There’s no doubt the shout out for free live is reaching a fever pitch. I’ll bet biscuits that Microsoft offers something in that vein this year.

I am not so sure they are going to be offering a free live anytime soon…

The cost of keeping all of that going and upgrading cannot be ignored and the way they have it now they can give exact stats to the developers and publishers on how many times a game is played online and for how long….

I expect a possible price cut and a whole bunch of bundled 12 month cards but I doubt they will just stop charging.

I recharged on Monday so would I get a refund?

[re=11433]Jinja[/re]: Because Sony doesn’t have the integrated ability to cater for what is required. They should also be putting their foot down and telling Konami to go jump…

An integrated service is meant to mean one userid and password all round…. Wait for another 10 games to do this and then you will be sitting with a huge list of usernames and passwords just to play games.

and before you say it won’t happen, I said it would on the mandatory installs and just look what happened there 😉

Lazy im surprised you havent had a story on the updated psn while we are talking about how crap it is 😉

Unfortunately its a case of getting what you pay for – would WoW be as succesful or good as it is if it were free ?
I don’t think MS will ever make Live free but rather concentrate on adding value to the experience that PSN will struggle to keep up with. Unfortunately us poor shlubs in SA will continue to suck the hind tit as long as the cost and quality of our “broadband” is what it is.

[re=11440]Abe[/re]: PSN hasn’t been updated as far as I know, they just got a pretty new store which has done away with the old HTML version and added a more interactive fat client version…

Apart from a few opening day glitches it seems to have gone down okay, however the lack of excitement all around was the deciding point in me not posting about it… No one seemed to phased apart from the dedicated PS3 sites…

    maybe I missed something else?

lol I find this quite amusing really…

I was having a chat with James the other day and he was saying that a bunch of people he knows get upset with this site because I only post good PS3 news and knock the 360 all the time.

Then I get constant emails and comments about how I only post good 360 news and bad PS3 news.

I could easily ‘spin’ the new PSN store into bad news and have made a concerted effort not to. I don’t think it’s uber amazing that Sony has finally upgraded their crappy store but I do find it amazing that as simple as that store is they released it filled with bugs, and the complaints of non loading thumbnails and the slow speed have been flooding in.

If Sony manages to get Home or an ingame XMB out then I will be impressed. The ingame XMB has been requested since before the PS3 was released and it still hasn’t surfaced… I would rather say nice things about the upcoming PS3 games rather than the shoddy PSN upgrades.

    lol, ain’t that the truth

Lazy seems to always blame publisher decisions on the core structure or service of the PS3 and/or PSN. It looks like Konami dropped the ball here. But i hope this is sorted for when the EU Beta (which caters for SA) goes live.

Sony needs to decide if they really want to compete against Live and if so then they need to put a lot more attention into the PSN and enforcing some integration rules

OUCH! I’m not taking sides here, but Lazy, this article DOES seem uncharacteristically biased on your part. In the past, I’ve always been impressed at how you don’t let your preference for Xbox360 interfere with the integrity of the articles. Perhaps I’m just reading too much into it.

Re. the new PS3 firmware which I installed last night, I am VERY enthusiastic about it, even if it only brought with it some small changes. The new store is fantastic, and I bought three small games for my girlfriend to play. It was easily the simplest online purchase/download I’ve ever made. It just highlighted everything that I’ve come to love about my PS3.

To be honest I don’t see how this can be defended, it is an obvious pain in the ass which goes against everything PSN was meant to offer. Accepting it will just give PS3 fans endless months of annoyance.

I can see no good reason for enforcing multiple logins and it has nothing to do with being anti-Sony or the PSN…

If Live did this then the story would be the same just with a different title 😉

You want to complain about Lazy developers then go after Konami, they could have integrated with the PSN if they really tried but instead they give you a dodgy second best attempt

@ all the PS3 fans: PSN is worse than XBL, deal with it! Thats what you get for a free service. Just like xbox360 fans have to deal with the constant stream of RROD articles.

I’m expecting a HUGE announcement from Microsoft about its Live! service as soon as Home drops on the PS3.

Another point is – I’d rather pay MS for Live! than have them resort it too a free service and then stagnate.

Bad News about the PSN update: The store is a chore to navigate – it is damn slow – which could be a cause of all the hits after the update.
Secondly – The European store has the most inane categorization. No seperate field to find Demo’s, no filter for PS1 games. It’s a mess compared to the US store.

-Thats enough bad news for Lazy to have reported on if it was his intention.
I suggest the complainents remove the massive chip from their shoulders.

Personally, I think that Lazy sees both the PS3 and 360 equally. There is tons of pro PS3 news here.

@all the PS3 fanboys: The PS3 will always be criticized because SONY charges so much for the PS3(2.5x the price of the Arcade) and boasts about the superiority of the hardware and games.

I know that you have admitted to being biased, and while you try your best to be subjective it does still show on occasion, the fact that me voicing this opinion gets me auto-fanboy status show that you obviously have many a biased reader too.
But I will maintain that I will still gladly use three password over paying! ps with the game not having been released yet, its a bit wayward to state it as catergorical fact!

I know I prefer the PS3 I have never denied that, but that alone cannot make me a fanboy, I have played all systems enough to make an educated decision and I chose the PS3 because I feels it best suits me!
