It’s official! The days of the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition consoles are numbered. With production on the Xbox Series X currently ramping up, Microsoft’s looking to sunset their current systems ahead of the launch of the next generation of gaming. While the beefiest Xbox and its lighter sibling won’t be around for much longer, the Xbox One S that sits in the middle of the spectrum of affordability and pure hardware will still be produced and distributed globally.

“As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge.

Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally.

Rumours of a discontinuation of these consoles have been circulating for a few weeks now, with that whispering in the shadows now claiming that Microsoft will show off a second and cheaper Xbox codenamed “Lockheart” in next week’s first-party games livestream. Apparently the cheaper alternative, Lockheart’s hardware is similar to that of the Xbox One X, includes an SSD storage option and will trim the disc drive from its frame. Microsoft says that the rumoured console won’t be shown off in next week’s event, as that showcase is purely for their first-party games.

Its been a short but sweet run for the Xbox One X. First teased at E3 2016 and then hitting the shelves in November 2017, the powerhouse system still currently stands as the most powerful console on the market, paving the way for Microsoft’s 4K ambitions in the game space. The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition has been out for just over a year, a more moderately priced console that emphasised Microsoft’s Game Pass service and digital future.

I guess that is evidence enough that it’s pretty much a definite that we will be getting the Xbox Series X this year. I am curious to find out what the uptake will be on the new consoles, considering the whole world is in something of an economic slump!

Yeah it’s going to be tough, I’m hoping SARS will buy me the XSX this year! If not, I’m not sure when I’ll be able to afford it….

Good luck with that, let us know how it turns out. Do you you think they’ll have any money left with companies closing, retrenchments, severely impacted revenue collection due to the economic suicide our government has committed on our behalf?

Slump? News for you mate, SA is financially wrecked after this. We’ve had “slump status” for about 5 years already and between the Coronavirus, comrades and rampant ignorance, GTFO if you can.
Half my family got out just in time. I’ve been fast tracking my kids education the last few years to get them out. Reality is, I just can’t afford it but have sacrificed a lot for their education.

Anyway, I know I can’t afford the new console’s day one this time around but I could for the last several generations.

So everyone that was so “concerned” that the confusion caused by naming the next most powerful console “Xbox Series X” would lead to grandma buying you the wrong console can now relax….?

You know what, You are just like Dealer, Dee batch, Zalker and Colt Eastwood. Every time there is news about the PS5 or Series X., every single one of those guys releases a video, without fail, blowing smoke up the USB port of the Series X or Phil Spencer’s ass. Or they talk about some inconsequential marketing gibberish pertaining to the next Xbox in order to draw attention away to their “side “.

It’s uncanny. It’s like a bunch of Hadida’s landing on your lawn at 6 am on a Saturday, the morning after a late night of partying. Granted, this time this article is about the Series X and MS, but the fact that you mysteriously only ever show up when these sorts of articles pop up is really weird.

I have to ask, what the hell is wrong with Xbox fanboys ? When Spencer attacked exclusives it was hailed as the great wisdom of the century, but clearly it is anti competitive and moronic marketing stupidity. Are you not capable of understanding the competition is what drives innovation forward ?

GTFO!? WHAT? If those people pisses you off that much with their videos…DON’T WATCH THEM….STOP FOLLOWING THEM! KEEP FOLLOWING CRAPGAMER INSTEAD! You will be so much happier, trust me! Just because their views differs from yours they must be wrong, right? Give it a rest! I’ve said it many times and will say it again…the PS5 is very powerful and that SSD is fantastic! Both companies are going in different directions, which is good imo, but obviously not yours, because once again, according to you, one must be wrong then!? Attacking exclusives, anti competition??? Huh?

Who’s crap gamer ? I follow them because I am just as interested in the Xbox as I am in the PS5. There aren’t any good PS5 channels, MBG is the only one I watch on a regular basis.
