Is Microsoft looking at drastically altering Live in the next iteration of the Xbox?
According to a job posting for a Games Producer Microsoft has stated
We’re building the games, the console interface and logic, and the server support for a totally new LIVE experience
They are planning on deeply pairing the games, console and Live system to create a dynamic fresh scenario every time… Whatever that means.
So any ideas on how Microsoft could drastically improve the Live experience?

It means they are going to copy Sony and try to come up with something like Home.

I guess this means that they may stop releasing Live on any more countries. They will just go with a new setup and a worldwide release. Most probably they will launch IP TV with it which is a much better concept than Home.

Thank goodness no it doesn’t! I couldn’t think of soemthing more pointless. Microsoft and Lindon Labs (2nd Life) are very close. They considered it years ago and wrote it off as a bad idea, I think they were bang on (As MS have been about motion controls as well).
No, I suspect a “new Xbox Live” will look a lot more like Facebook than anything else. XBL and FB already have a lot in common and they’ve also shown their intent with the FoF features in the last update.

That’s why I say more like a Facebook type thing, XBL is like it in a lot of ways already.
My imagining of it would be say the addition of XNA FBesque applications and personal spaces driven by Silverlight/Popfly.

Home is an abomination of the first order. It’s a pointless exercise IMO. Yes, we will all download it and check it out but from beta footage it looks like a pain in the rear. If I want to endure that kind of mess I’d rather stab myself with a blunt knife, cheaper and the result is as depressing. Whatever MS do, they must not implement a similar thing.
I agree the next version will be setup for IPTV. Microsoft are going to push that as far as they can – soon we will all be downloading movies instead of buying hard copies.

While many aspects of Home seem pointless, there also a lot about it which is pretty cool. Hopefully, they’ll make it easy to use the things you like and to ignore the ones you don’t.
The concept of being able to shoot some pool or play a little bowling while you wait for your lobby to fill up is pretty nifty. How much time have I spent in my life waitinf for a Halo 3 or Gears game to get going!
Being able to launch from a standardised lobby itself would be neat, too.
I would like a simple way to access in-game trophies at a glance, but if well implemented, it could be nice to wonder around and look at them in 3D as an option.
I’m also certain that whatever Microsoft is doing, it will have some sort of Facebookesque social networking spin to it.

I think a standardized lobby will definitely be in. It makes sense that Live will be an even more common platform, so all games will have the same lobby (different skins/themes). Naturally this would entice developers to go towards the xbox as it’ll be one less thing to worry about.
Home/open world type interfaces aren’t all bad if done properly. Like you guys have said, FB and Second Life became crap because it they were open platforms so it just became a spammer’s heaven.
But some games have made the transition to an open world (think Burnout Paradise) and it became cool, you know just walk about do stuff in a seamless way. The only way a home-like interface like that could work is if all games were on the hard drive.
Also, i see a new “super-intergrated-on-line platform” would have to include in-game advertising in a new an innovatingly irritating way.

Or it could be pay as you play. The more you play the more you pay(online). Imagine for one round of COD6 it will cost you $1. Food for thought!
